Has anyone out there mounted a CB or HAM with a post type mount in their console? I have a Cobra 25 CB that I would like to use in my 01 Sport Trac and I don't want to mount it on the side of the console. I think maybe if I can build a mount that I can bolt into the tray area of my console I can make it work for me.

Also, any suggestions about an antenna to use? I have been throwing around the idea of a 102" whip mounted to the rear bumper.

      Any input would be appreciated.

I have my ham radio mounted on an arm that is bolted to the "hump". I thought I had a photo of it, but doesn't look like I ever posted it. It's gotta be a hefty mount, or a small radio though.

I've looked at the installations in the 2nd Gen forum. I'm not sure if they'll work for my radio. Any suggestions or ideas about the antenna? I'm wondering if the 102" will be effective with my fiberglass bed.

The center "tray" is not very sturdy for mounting a radio, especially as big as a 25. It just snaps into place you know.

PANAVISE makes some really strong mobile mounts for electronics. Have a look. I use the Motorola NMO mount antennas on "L" brackets that stick up between the front fender and the hood. Works well.

I'm sure if I look at it hard enough I can come up with a way to make the tray a little stronger. It might be as simple as adding a few clips along the sides. I was able to fab up my own mount for the radio out of some scrap stainless steel from work. I think it looks good.

Resurrecting an old thread, but I know you're still around. Do you have any pictures of how you ended up mounting the cb?

I have some pictures of the final installation, but I don't have any of the mount before I installed it. I'll try to take some pictures & figure out how to post them soon.

I still need to clean up the wiring a bit. When I do, I'll take the mount completely off & take some more pictures of it. I have the antenna mounted to the inside of the bed. Not the best of locations, but it works. I'll get a pic of that too.
