I would imagine a big scary dude with a knife outside my window and blow a hole through the window to get it open:)

My Dad used to play out boat safety scenerios when I was a kid every time we went out; ie" what do you do if I fall out out son?" Well one day he asked me and I responded with a smartass tone " blah blah blah and then blah blah blah" My Dad jumps right out of the friggin boat!!!6yrs old I am- My first action....DAD!!!!Scared the sh*t out of me. 2nd action I actually remembered to push the outboard handle to one side so the little sucker would turn around in circles. I failed the part about tossin' him a floating seat cushion.

Thanks Al, I have to go call my Dad and say Hello.

Nice. This is what we do in RiverGuide training. I remember being trained and our instructor just stood up in the Class 3 and said "Whatcha gonna do now!!!" As he jumps out of the boat. That was pretty funny watching all these newbies scrambling for a throwbag, some like Aldive said, just painc and hold on...

If you break the window, you need to do it before the vehicle is completely submerged. If underwater, but the cabin still has air in it, when you break the window wouldn't the glass shards go flying at you from the pressure of the water pushing it?

while the freakin bottom of my car is filling with water, id just open up my handy dandy sunroof and poke my head out to see whats going on above the water. id sit about halfway in the car, halfway poking out the sunroof for a little bit checking out how freakin cool it is to be in a sinking car... then when its time for the roof to go under id climb out and run along my roof and do a freakin backflip into the water seeing as im gonna get wet anyway and i might as well make the most of the trip from teh top of the car into the water. then id swim ashore and look for other cool rocks and stuff to do freakin backflips off of because backflips are cool and i will have nothing better to do seeing as my ex is at the bottom of a freaking lake.

i dont know why but i had the urge to say the word "freakin" a lot just now.

I never thought about the sunroof thing. My sunroof is always open so i am all set. Unless my ex rolls over into the water. Then i am back to being freakin screwed.

I have seen cars turn over during the filling process. You can never assume anything with a submerged vehicle.

Good point. I have nevertried to punch out a window while submerging. I imagine it will push inward but it won't shater ( safety glass ). Next exercise I will perform this. Thanks....

    this thread

All joking aside, you never know if one day this thread will keep you from panicing and save your (and maybe others with you) life. Hopefully that will never happen, but you never know.

Al, please let me know about the outcome of breaking a window with water pressure pushing on it. I'm curious to know what happens. It's cool that you have the ability to test this stuff.

Do you two have anything better to talk about? This could be valuable information if you ever find yourselves in this situation. Go gripe somewhere else....

I will be doing another submersion in a month or so.

Some people just don't seem to understand the debilitating effect of panic. I certainally hope they don't find themselves underwater some day...

Here in the Milwaukee area, your best chance of getting wet is falling through the Hoan Bridge. But even then, my truck would actually float on top of all the "treated sewage" in Lake Michigan. I'd roll UP the windows because the smell is what will kill you here. That, or the bridge will fall on you. I guess it really doesn't matter at that point.

Just curious, how does the "wildlife" in Florida react in this situation? If your truck is hit and you end up in a lake or ocean, there might be blood. How do you fight off the alligators, with your maglight?

If you happen to land on a female gator's nest with young, you might be in a world of do do ( not that you already are not ), but otherwise, you will scare the gators away.

Ok, but what if you find yourself under 7 Mile Bridge? With blood in the water, you're nothing more than a chum bag with wheels. Are there many of these "situations" in the Keys? I'd imagine it was worse with the "old" 7MB.
