Hey guys, I got a question for everyone. I know that some people here have Helix Towers but Poweraid has no intention in making a spacer for the 02 Explorers. A couple companies sell intake spacers on eBay for 4.6L mustangs. I was wondering if anyone knew if these will fit on the 4.6L Explorers. Also does anyone know the TB size on an 02 Explorer? Any help would be great. Thanks

I don't know if this helps or not...but most people here think they are a waste of money.

I have seen dyno numbers from people on other forums, they typically give you about 5hp to the wheels(non-milled versions), which isn't bad for something under $40.

A throttle body spacer increases the length of the intake plenum which can result in some low end torque. Also it seperates the throttle body from the intake manifold which can keep the TB cooler (on metal intakes)

Supossedly they swirl the air as well, but on our engines with the type of fuel injection they use this is pointless.

I have never used one or seen one for the OHV 4.0L, but I too have found that they are a waste of $$$ from the research I have done.

If somebody has one or has proof otherwise, please share it with us, for I will be hte first to spend $30 to get 5 hp at the rear wheels.

I am sure that I can show you a dyno result from a 4.6L mustang but my real question was whether the spacer from a 4.6L mustang would fit a 4.6L explorer. I have no idea if they work on a 4.0 OHV or SOHC. I just know they do work with the 4.6L SOHC. No these aren't like the Helix Towers that swirl air and yes my two friends with Helix Towers in their pick-ups swear by them(one is a certified mechanic and the other is a mechanical engineer student at ND)

on mustangs, they are worth 1-2 pounds of torque! No horsepower gain.

Cant help you there. I would think all you need to do is pop the hood on the Stang then pop the hood onthe Ex and have a look see.......

BTW when did they start putting the 4.6L into the Ex? Call me stupid but I was un aware, I am too involved in the Gen I and Gen II platforms.....

      2002.5, the 4.6 V8 is an option in the 3rd Gen 4 door. 4.0 SOHC V6 or 4.6 (SOHC or DOHC?) V8.

It's the SOHC from the GT, not the DOHC from the Cobra; though that would be real nice ;) . As for the dyno's, here is just one for you guys, but it is from a 4.6L mustang, not an X. The first is before the spacer and the second is after.

Hmmm, it does show a difference. Added to other mods it could lead to a noticable increase. However, I don't think the average driver can notice a 1-2% change in horsepower. I notice more of a difference when it's 10 degrees cooler out.

I put a Helix on when Performance Products had 15% off last year. It does make the X more comfortable, not sitting on that fat wallet I used to have. Thats the only change I can feel. Nada for gas milage either.
If I had it to do over again, I wouldnt.

Throttle Body spacers work on some cars and not on others.... it depends on the design of the car and so on. One more thing, they will NOT work with intake kits such as the FIPK's, Araids and KKM's. The results from using a TBS with a intake kit is very small or nil.
