      Optima Red Top
All right, so it doesn't really count as a mod. More of a upgrade, but the little buggers cost enough and took long enough to make fit tightly that I decided it counts.

Really I just happened to get an Optima Red Top and decided it may as well go in the X. It takes up so much less space though that it made for an interesting time getting it really secure.

I removed the battery tray and chipped the mud off

Know able to see the box I decided to utelize the wedge device on the front end of the tray for a tensioner, but it still left a lot of movement.

So... I put a steel floor under the factory tray and ran hooks through for a standard H style tie down. The tray was then lined around the edge with washing machine water line (3/8" very heavy walled).

With the tray all tidied up and back in the vehicle the Optima squeeked into it's new nest. the wedge creates a good side to side pressure to prevent slippage and the H-bar does it's job and holds it down tight.

One point to note in using one of these chaep standard tie downs is that they have a flat lip and the Optima Battery is not flat on the terminal side, I just got the leatherman out and did a little bending to fit the raised areas.

Their is just two problems. I measured and I can fit two easily if the front one will clear the hood.

Second issue. It's red!!! eveythin else is blue, black or brown (mud). Now there is this bright red thing.

Is there a reason why I can't use the blue top??????? ;)

YES the blue top is a marine battery, does not work well in the truck.

If you mount the OPtima on its side, it fits the battery tray perfectly.

Costco had red tops for $99

      Lol
I was going to start an appropriate thread when I actually started the project, but I guess I have to share my excitement over making room for bigger tires.

I wonder what the UPS man will bring tomorrow ;)

In some ways I really love being home bound in the winter. It always makes spring so much better and my truck actually gets groomed and worked on.
