thud when shifting

Hey guys, I sometimes get a loud thud when I shift to reverse or drive. Sometimes I put it in reverse or drive and noth I no happens. I put it back in Park then in reverse or drive and I get that loud thud when it engages. Is this a sign that I need to have the fluid checked. The X has 140,000 miles on it. Never had transfluid changed.

A solenoid in your transmission. Just had that happen with my '07. It cost me right at $800 to get it fixed. You might consider getting the trasmission flushed while your in there.

Ok Thanks Rubberhead, will get a new solenoid and have the transaction flushed.
