I just replaced the rear brakes on my '96 XLT. The driver side rear brakes were almost worn to the metal, whereas the passenger side had plenty of life left on the pads. Any idea what might cause this? The caliper slide pins were dry on both sides (boots were torn also), but I'm not sure if this was the cause. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Potentially, the caliper is partially seized resulting in the brake not working.... that being on the side that seems almost new!!!

Thanks for the response. I thought that the side with more wear might have a bad caliper, but it didn't stick when I pushed it in to replace the pads. I wouldn't have thought to look at the other side, but it makes sense.

Agreed, my left rear wears faster than the right side also. I suggest that you replace at least the one caliper with a rebuilt part. The prices aren't very bad for calipers. Good luck,

yeah they are like 14 bucks or something like that right?
