usual problems to watch out for

Hi all,

I'm new to the board, but yes, I searched before posting. My Camaro's not gonna cut it in Michigan during the winter. I'm looking at buying a 98 Explorer Sport (2 door) auto 4wd w/134k. It appears to be completely stock. What are the usual problems to look out for? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the site, see if the tranny has been replaced yet or still original, check for leaking sunroof if equipped.

If it has the SOHC 4.0, check and see if the intake manifold o-rings, cam chain tensioners and timing chain cassettes have been replaced. Search for Owner Notification Programs 00M12 and 01M01 for more info if you have the SOHC. The engine will have a black cover with SOHC on it if you do. The OHV engine says 4.0 EFI, and doesn't have a cover.
