I have talked to the lot boy, service writer, service manager, sales manager, and the General Manager. Ford care has many phone calls on file. The BBB has now also started a file. They all talk a game and say they will fix it. But talk is cheap and their work is worth even less !!! Why should any customer be put through this to get a ford fixed under warranty ?? If the managers have to Mico manage this much it is time to get some managers that know how manage.

So after two attempts to fix leak with little success, I did a search here on roof rack removal in hopes of fixing leak myself since all the dealers I have spoke with just hire an outside "leak doctor" to try and fix problem. Found that many have done this and have just removed rack completely. Decided to go to an auto body shop since they would have the expertise and they called ford parts since the search showed the Police interceptor has no roof rack but the channel has a nice piece to fit in there. Parts guy says there is a TSB out now or due soon and the other source of leak fix is to seal the seam? They also said there are so many out there leaking and more people want the rack removed that the channel piece is on back order until October. Finally, I am going to have them remove rack and seal holes properly and wait for parts to come in. Once done will send bill to Ford for reimbursement. Wish me luck. Parts are about $200 and labor $100 to $150. To me it is worth it and hopefully Ford will give some renumeration, if not atleast will be fixed professionally, I hope.

There have been several posts where the leak was due to a seam which was then repaired. It isn't always the roof rails that cause it.

It's been raining here pretty good all day. Back of the Ex is saturated. Carpet is soaked. Interior smells like musty old carpet. I took the cover piece off the spare tire area. Looks like it has mould growing on it. My wife used to complain of how my Ex smelled when she got in it. I wondered what could have been causing it. When can I go to arbitration here in Canada? This is a 50K+ vehicle that leaks as bad as an olden wooden boat! They may be able to patch it with caulking. But what happens when that dries up. I'm at wits end.

Any damage caused by the leak should also come under warranty IMO. I believe another member had some carpeting replaced.

I'm happy to assist, broken strut. I suggested taking your vehicle to your local dealer at your earliest convenience. To help locate the nearest, please use this link: http://www.ford.ca/dealerships/locate/ Also, PM me your VIN, full name, daytime phone number, and dealer info; I'll assess the next step.

2013 expl sport glass roof leaking with 37400 miles?

So I just relocated from boston am to greenville sc. It was a monsoon the other night, and I felt water spray while I was sitting in the middle row. I looked up above the ceiling panel between the ceiling panel and the glass and could see a water drip. Got out and checked the seal from the outside, no sign of wear.

I called and spoke with "Bret" at George Coleman ford. His first question was "where did you buy it?" Not a very good start to a relationship with my new local ford dealership. I said I bought it with 1400 miles on it it was a demo and it has 37400 miles on it right now. He said "well its out of warranty" I said come on, you mean to tell me a water leak in a vehicle isn't covered? I can't get any good will?? He said doubt it, you can set up an appointment and I have a guy who comes in every wednesday to deal with those issues he charges about 250.00." I said wait, you have a specialist to deal with these issues so it's a prevalent issue and I have a 36000 mile warranty which if i bought it at 1451 and it has 37400 I have 51 miles left of warranty. He said no, you're wrong. So now I have a 49000 vehicle that has a roof leak. I called the dealer I bought it from and had the oasis report faxed to me and it says that there was a roof leak before I got it. So aggravated! Really ford? The roof seals should last longer the. 37400 miles.

The 3yr/36k warranty begins when the Explorer is firsy put into service so you are indeed out of warranty. The fact that it previously was worked on for a water leak might help your case. Did they say if the leak was the same one as before? You may also want to contact the Ford service rep, Crystal (FordService). She monitors this Forum and can try and help you with your case. You can send her a Private Message using this link; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=157968
When you PM, be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership in your message.

My explorer just started leaking, at the R 3rd seat seatbelt and onto the trunk mat, about 3 months ago. I'm out of warranty. Has there ever been a TSB about this issue? I'm afaid to take the car to the dealer after all I have read!

I have my Explorer Back after a week. They replaced the carpet in the back as well as the cover part for the spare tire. It hasn't rained here since.... They said they ran water over it for 9 hours in every direction possible. Played phone tag with the regional customer service rep. He never did get in touch with me. I tried calling him about 20 times over the past week. No luck. Time will tell how this goes. Looks like they patched two areas by the hinges. I will post up some pics to show everyone how they "fixed" my 50K plus car. Shameful really. Ford has known about this issue for 3 years and they are still having problems. The bodyshop guy actually asked me who worked on it before he did. I said nobody did. I bought it brand new. He said he looked like someone tried to patch it before and did a really shoddy job in doing so.

Guess it came out of the factory that way.

Waiting for the first post by a member with a 2015 model member and this issue.

Peter

THIS HERE IS WHAT THE BODYSHOP GUY WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE SAID HE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WOULD COME OUT OF THE FACTORY THAT WAY!!!!! I CAN'T EITHER NOW THAT I HAVE REALLY LOOKED AT IT. IT'S JUST SMEARED ON THE BACK. NO RHYME OR REASON TO THIS AT ALL. JUST SMEARED ON.

Not bad eh! 50,000 dollar car and you thrown a bit of caulking on it with a little dash of "hope" it doesn't leak.

It is pretty bad when to buy American you have to settle for poor work man ship (Ford) or poor engineering (G.M.). Then you get to fight the stealer ships to fix the problems and if their shop screws it up ford claims (dealer induced problem). Ford claims they can not help you. I am at the point where I will help my self no more fords !!!!

Hi esandye,

Your dealership will be able to enter your VIN in our system to see if any TSBs or other service actions would apply to your vehicle. I'd suggest going ahead and booking an appointment so they can get this documented and diagnosed. How many miles are on your Explorer?

Here's where they patched. Not the greatest work in the world. Put on thick and it looks like they used their fingers to smooth it out! The weather stripping will probably wear out fast around this area as it is very rough. What do you guys think?

I think Ford is doing a terrible job with this issue. They caulked mine also where it was leaking and everyone knows caulking only lasts a few years and when it starts leaking again it will be out of warranty and not their problem. Ford sucks

But now it is a Dealer induced problem and ford will tell you they can not help. It is between you and the dealer. Good luck.

43000 miles. I took the spare out and no damage yet. Wrapping a towel around rhe passenger side 3rd row seat belt caught most of the water on the last rain storm. Keeping a towel in the car for now.
