Hi fellows
Few days ago I was driving my 2002 Explorer XLT Flexfuel 4wd and I revv the engine to pass another vehicle. The Ex response was good, as usual, but when I park in my home's driveway I was aware of a strange noise coming from the engine. It was like a soft "clunk, clunk, clunk" which increases in loudness when I revv the engine. I have a 1992 Explorer too, still running solid, and the sound remembered me when some valve lifters start to fail in my old Explorer.
Well, intrigued by the sound I revv the engine again, to over 4K RPM, and then when the engine returnsd to idle, the noise disappear.
Today, it happen again just like the first time, and the noise also disappear when revv the engine harder
I believe that maybe a valve lifter is damaged. The Explorer has 135.000 miles on it and all the engine is still original, only the usual filters, fluids and spark plugs changes have been done.
Any ideas or advice about this will be very welcomed.
Thanks a lot:thumbsup:
Andy
