    Hey everyone,

I'm just curious as to what people have added to their 2011 Ford Explorers since they picked them up from the dealer. I've added a few pieces to my Ex, which includes the following:

8k HID's in the Headlights (from Krypton Bulbs)
Shark Fin Antenna (from one of the previous threads)
    OEM Roof Rails
    (2) Yakima Forklift Bike Racks
    OEM Bumper Protector
    OEM Molded Plastic Splash Guards
    OEM Gas Cap
    OEM Ambient Lighting Kit
    OEM All Weather Mats

I'm also considering looking into the Following upgrades:

    CGR Superguard Hood Protector
    CGR In Channel Vent Visors
    CGS Cold Air Intake
    CGS Cat Back Exhaust
    Weathertech Mats (The Whole Car)
    Audio/TV Sytem for Tailgating
    Remote Car Starter
    Radar Detector

I would love to hear or see the other changes people have made to their Ex, or if they have had any good experiences/recommendations with products that I'm looking at.

    -Andrew

Gas cap is a accessory since the Explorer now runs the capless system which doesn't require a gas cap. So if you want one you have to buy it as a accessory.

I guess I should say I don't understand the need of a gas cap. What is it good for? I just go with the "OEM" capless design and didn't think I need to upgrade

Probably just extra protection from vandalism. I'm guessing that it'd be pretty easy for some "prankster" to pour something in that capless tank or maybe siphon fuel. The last time I tried to siphon fuel from my car, back in the 90's, I had 0% success but I think that was because the hose was too short and not because of any prevention device. Maybe there is some sort of screen in the filler neck to prevent siphoning, beats me.

I live in near a college campus, so yes you could say there are pranksters, so I got the cap to protect against people siphoning fuel and/or adding water to my gas tank. For the $20.00 or so it cost its worth the piece of mind.

Forgive my naivety, as I'm just curious, but how does a gas cap do anything to deter this activity? Removing a gas cap is not exactly rocket science, or is there some kind of lock on this cap? If I wanted to siphon someone's gas or pour water in their tank, having to turn a knob 1/4 turn would hardly deter me from doing so. You wouldn't even know the particular vehicle had a gas cap until you opened the fuel door, at which point, I would think one is pretty committed to undertaking whatever devious activity they set out to open the fuel door for.

Yes there is a lock on the gas gap. You get two keys along with the gas cap, it's not just one that you can turn to put in and out.

Hi all, I just recently picked up my XLT, and this may be the first vehicle I get the windows tinted. Looking for a way to keep the interior cooler, cut down on amount sunlight that blinds us, and on our black Ex, I guess it would just look good.

Now since I have not done tint before on any of my previous vehicles, I see some have gone to max for their state, etc. My concern is, how much does that impact your safe view of your side mirrors, stuff like that? I am torn on what level of tint to get, I would love to go as dark as possible, but don't want to at the cost of me hitting someone/thing.

Thanks! Although I am leasing, I love this board to get ideas of what I can add.

Don't worry about it, just get the max your state would allow. (remember your stock window has some base "Tint" in, so if you state allow 25% don't just go get 25% because you will be below the state limit.

If the day time you won't miss anything, at night anything within your state limit is not going to hide anything from you. If you go 10% or less thats another story.

Cool thank you very much for answering my questions. I made an appointment with a guy my salesman (who was awesome) told me to go to. He is doing the fronts at 4:00pm today for $69, which seems to be pretty good.

    Thanks again!

I have the Aries step/nerf bars in chrome, which are a necessary accessory if you don't want to lift toddlers in and out by yourself. The step height makes it a challenge for my five-year-old to climb in, and the two-year-old didn't stand a chance. Other than that, all stock at the moment

What are the LED bulb number for the Map, reverse and license plate bulbs. The side mirrors light can be changed to LED?
