I'm interested in what people think is better and why. Obviously if you're stuck in rush-hour traffic near NYC, automatic is better. How about other driving conditions like ice/snow, mud, general off-road, overall accelleration, etc.?

Please be sure to say why you feel the way you do.

i enjoy driving a standard... it makes driving more interesting. even in traffic i'd still rather have one. i don't like having to worry about the clutch and other things going out though. and if im understanding correctly, my 4.56's with 35's would work better with a automatic and since mines a manny i really needed 4.88's. because being somewhat underpowered offroad i can can't go from first to second without losing my rpms and by the time i switch 2nd gear doesn't have the have the power to turn the tires anymore. in a automatic it would be be a quicker shift and... so with what i have with my setup and all an automatic would work better for me offroad i think. even though i enjoy driving a standard. but if i'm understanding correctly being geared better would solve my problem.

For all arround driving, I prefer an auto. However, sportscars should have nothing but a manual.

I think it comes down to what YOU like. Personally I'd take a manual over an automatic anyday of the week.

      Manual....all the way.

      Dead Battery? Pop the clutch.
      Dead Starter? Pop the clutch.
Wanna go faster? Let OFF the gas, then downshift, hit the gas again.
Parking brake don't work? Put it in gear (turn the wheels in the appropiate direction).
Wanna stay AWAKE while driving? A M/T will keep you up.
Want Better Mileage? Get a stick....

This is all for the SUV/Truck crowd....

Grocery Getters, and Kid Haulers should have Automatics.

i like the ease of the automatic... and for some conditions the auto seems better... however as ryan jsut stated... there are a lot of spots where a manual is better off.... traffic sticks suck.... but freeway, you dont really notice..

my yotas a stick, and i wouldnt want it to be an auto... however i like d my explorer being an auto.....
