I had been considering it for home for quite some time now so that I could take my laptop anywhere in the house I wanted. I just didn't want to spend twice as much for a wireless card than I could get a 1000 ft box of cat 5 cable for. So I am at school in the computer lab and I see that they offer wireless connections to laptop users! Sweet now I'm in, I have the ability to do my work on one computer both at home and at school!? No more floppies back and forth allt he time except to print at school. SO I bit the bullet last night and bought one of these linksys PCMCIA cards. I must say t was a pain getting set up but I am on it now and it works great. No more fighting over a computer in the lab!

Now to get an access point for home... Internet speeds are just as fast even though it is an 11Mbps network connetion vs 100Mbps. Might suck at home for file transfer speeds on the network, but I can live with that. I highly recomend wireless (for personal use, for business read up on security).:D :D :D :D :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I got one too...because they had wireless access points all over school. I got the Linksys WAP for home, and now if I come home and the wife is bidding on postcards on Ebay...I dont care! I go wireless!

Suggestion: go to the Linksys website and download the latest driver for your card. It has a cool signal strength icon for your tray, and all the problems I was having went away with the new driver.

Yeah. I have cat 5 all over my den and longer ones for moving around, so I ordered a US Robotics Router/Access Point, since I am not happy with my current linksys router. But anyway, it will be nice to beable to fire it up anywhere! When I get a computer together for the wife for the guest bedroom so I can keep her out of my den:D (just kidding, she needs someting setup for work, finances and play, that she can rely on, since I am always screwing with my others) I am gonna put a wireless card in it so I won't have to run CAT 5 all over the place:D :D :D

If your using wireless make sure you secure it. Too many people get hacked from not doing this...

Ya know.....I thought about that too.
There is a whole bunch of security levels and passwords/encryptions for the WAP, but it seems like a hassle....but then I thought, if someone wants to park outside my house, hack into my computer, and pick up some free porn...let them at it....

Yeah I'm not gonna impliment it at work because of that, but I'm with you. If they want to steal what I have at home then too bad for them.

      my school is wireless

My highschool is completely wireless. All the high-school students (myself included) all have laptops through a group purchase by the school and they're all equipped with wireless cards. We use them in classes all the time which makes it easy to be say.....reading Explorer Forum during history class! Wireless IS great. Sometimes the access points get messed up and you lose connection but other than that they're very convenient. I'd DEFINATLY recommend everyone who has a laptop which they frequently use in their house to go wireless. And it can be done fairly cheap now a days as long as you have a cable connection.

Btw frankrizzo its WEP or Wired Equivalent Privacy.
Your logic is flawed frank. They may not even want anyting on your computer, but use it for other various things. Which bring me to my next point. There are some people who will park infront of your house and use your internet access/bandwidth for whatever reason they see fit. I know WEP is not the securest but IMHO it is better than nothing at all.

They are not hard to setup, stop being so lazy.
