Hey everyone im a new member just like everyone else has been at one time...
My name is Chris Lehto, and I live in central Maine, I used to live in Trenton, but I just moved to the Bowdoin area of Maine a couple weeks ago for more career oppurtunities. If you've wondered about my username, cllcomputers, I am a computer person. I know a lot about computers, and I am a diehard technology fan. As a teenager I made a living fixing them for people around my town growing up. I am almost 20 now, and I've pretty much retired that self-employed business of mine because of steady income, etc. Right now I'm living with my grandparents and I am seeking a job hoping for something related to computers. Once I get enough money saved I am going to find an apartment and live on my own.
Enough about me, I acquired a used '93 XLT Explorer V6 4.0L. Its a dark green, nothing special, standard (and popular) color so you see them everywhere. My friend got this X from someone who lived on his road, at the time the starter didn't work. After he had it towed to his house, He and I worked on it and got the starter going by combing parts of a replacement starter (that didn't fit) with the old starter and made a fitting working starter. The vehicle was pretty much completely operable at this point. This friend of mine is big into finding fixer-upper vehicles, and he also likes Saabs. He had this Saab already and after getting this X he found another one he really wanted. Since he's living on his parents' land, his parents said no, unless he got rid of the X. So he gave it to me in hopes of getting the other Saab. The X was already under my name by the time he found out that the seller of the new Saab decided not to sell it. I paid him $100 for the starter and other things he got for it before I acquired the X.
I took it for inspection to see what it needed. Overall, I've replaced both balljoints on the driver side, pretty much redone the entire brake system (lines, pads, shoes, calipers, wheel cylinders, and of course hardware in the rear drum brakes). I've also redone the exhaust, and filled in some rust in some places, and made new rocker panels. Since road salt is used heavily here in maine during the winter months, rust is a BIG problem to all of us drivers. The poor X is rusting pretty bad but I'm hoping that I can deal with it without too much headache. Everytime I'm pounding on something, rust is always falling somewhere.
I finally got it to pass inspection, and over the next year I'll be keeping it up to make sure it passes next year. And just today I got the rear brakes to work right (nice firm pedal ), but still need to work out the ABS light that comes on after 15~45 minutes of driving.
As you can see, this X is a fixer-upper for me but as it "matures" i am hoping to do some modifications on it someday when my personal life is a bit more stable. It is my main vehicle for now until I can get my white Nissan Sentra fixed up and eligible for inspection again. (Gotta love that Nissan, 45MPG HWY)
Well I hope all is well with all of you, Sorry for the long post, but thought i'd introduce myself. I'll post some pictures of my X in the next couple days.
