The door is very heavy...but the straps I believe are included in all police vehicles. Officers open the door quickly and the hinges can't take the stress...

I watched a video and YES, the door has the ballistic panels which make the doors VERY heavy. That strap is to protect the door from going out of alignment because of the weight!
