I had 31 bfg's on my 91 ex for a year now. Stock rims, no rubbing. I just recently had a 1 1/2-2 inch lift put on and got wider rims, 15x8's with 3.75 backspacing. I was under the impression that with the wider backspacng I would have less rubbing if any even without a lift. Not the case. After the lift and rims combo, my passenger tire now rubs the outer wheel well when full locked, and when I go over a bump and have the wheel turned. Please, I thought that since I didnt have rubbing at all stock, that with a lift if would only give me more clearance. Can anyone explain this. Do the wider rims actually make it worse?? Damn after all this money, this sucks. Thanks in advance.

How much difference in the backspacing? That wider rim might effect the rubbing depending on the backspacing.

i went from a stock rim with 31's to 15x8's with 3.75 backspacing

With the wider wheel and less backspacing it makes the tire stick out more. This makes the axis that the wheel turns on wider so it hits hon the firewall and possibley the bottom rear of the fender.

angle of articulation crap! sounds like sawzall time.

2 questions

How did you lift it?
Have you gotten an alignment yet?

it is a skyjacker coil springs add a leaf, 1/12,-2 inch lift, and yes it has been aligned with the correct shims and everything...

You didn't get wider backspacing... stock BS = 4.5" and your new rims are only 3.75 so a net difference of -0.75". How wide are the 31s? The following diagram shows a stock rim/tire compared to a 33x12.5 bfg ta k/o on both a 15x8 and 15x10 rim..

hey woah wait aligning effects rubbing? just lifted mine, did some trimming, NO alignment yet, will it make my rubbing worse or better lol?

It makes no sense. I have the same lift & rim/tire combo & I have no rubbing problems lock to lock. Can you post a pic of the rubbing area? Maybe the fender lining is bent down?

An alignment should not make any change in rubbing. If any rubbing were to occur it would be there regardless of any alignment changes.
