I have a 2006 mountaineer with the factory clear taillight lens. The problem is the brake light bulb died and I can't find it anywhere. Because of the clear lens the buld is red. The ford dealership by me (because mercury is gone) doesn't have any but he will special order it at $12 each and I have to buy a case of 12. $144 for a bulb, damb. Can someone please tell me the part # and where to get it. Thanks

Rockauto.com shows the bulb, with not to many in stock. The info picture shows it clear, but could be a generic picture.

THe mounty bulb is a special bulb. I was wondering about this a few days ago. I haven't looked for it anywhere. It is a clear LED but not one that fits in a 3157 socket. It has a plug that hooks to it.

Looking on fordparts.com it looks like it's part number 13B765, "Retainer And Bulb Lincoln/Mercury Series ; Rear Lamp, LED", list price $59.22? But then it also lists a 3157 amber bulb for the turn signal for $52.98.

local store has part # as L1224R-3P but they don't have that either. Still can't find a definate answer.

13B765 is just a bulb classification, not the type of bulb, but bulb, as I understand it. As you input year make model it then becomes specific.
The 2006 tail lights I have utilize the LED L1224R bulb. Not your regular bulb by any means. For some reason these appear to only be available via eBay or the Dealer.
The 3157 for $52.98 would be their box price. If they stock it, it'd be that price divided by the number of bulbs in the box.

FordParts.com has them for $67.60 right now (I had to click on the rear lens assembly, then the bulb number to find it,) my local dealer wanted 80 something.
eBay has them new for $64.99.

I'm just surprised there isn't more aftermarket availability. Even if it's the Osram brand.

I hate to say it, but I'd be checking my local U Pull It junkyards and I'd grab a few bulbs, or maybe even complete tail light assemblies. Or maybe even grab 2 explorer tail lights and never worry about this again

3rd gen Mountaineer and 4the gen Explorer tail lights are usually the first thing to go when they hit the yard. Those and the outside mirrors.

I happened upon a set the other day. Someone had take the drivers side stoplight bulb already. Why they didn't take the passenger side is beyond me. If they had, I'd not have known they were unique. I'm planning on putting them on my '03 Mounty.

As I'm sure you found out, the lamp assembly are the same shape, but the mounting studs are different. Were you able to find a workaround?

I never did. Life happened! Lol I wasn’t aware that there was a difference.
