supercharged 5.0 true fire 98 explorer sport

hi everyone, my name is tim . i live in selkirk, manitoba, canada and as if this date that i am posting this, i am 36 years old.

i bought my sport in jan 05 from a local ford dealer. it had 111,000KM's on it. this is the second sport i have owned. it was sitting on the lot for about 8 months before i came along. i am the third owner (i was able to track down the person that traded it in, and they got it from a friend, who bought it new in 98).

i started to do a few things to it after i first got it, then i found this site, and all hell broke lose! i've never been satisfied with something the everyone else has, so i started to tinker with it even more.

then in 2014 you go back to the same show you have been to 5 years in a row (nothing by most, but its one hell of a long drive) and take first!

Sorry man, that stinks.

Let it wait if you can. You know the part will work.

that is the problem at the moment. if it was summer, sure i would let it sit and wait. however in the long term forecast, next sunday they are calling for snow. with having no garage to work in, i dont really want to be standing outside trying to put it back together with a bunch of sloppy wet crap falling from the sky.

that hub cant be saved? What is the material? steel?
Dang stainless bolts so soft!!!

im not really sure what its made from. if its metal, they use some type of coating on it so it wont rust. the reason why i say its done it if you look at the picture of it, by the time you are done drilling it out, then drill for a coil, there isnt much meat left on the outter edge of it. i also dont know if you can weld to it, and if you do, if it will distort it

I would
extract the bolt
see if a magnet sticks to it
grind the roughness away
heat the part
tack weld some small beads where the material is fubar
shape the new weld material
re tap the hole
See how it comes out and probably
Run it
and then there is always the JB weld :) option (to re shape the fubar bits)

Removing a broken stainless bolt is the stuff of nightmares!!

It's harder than mild steel, and more brittle. Nasty combo! Need a high dollar bit for it at the very least, and done in a press/lathe.

I use this From VMP Performance:

I use their pulleys that are listed for Cobra's and Lightnings, they have lots of sizes like 2.6 to 3.3 inch.

TVS fits eaton shafts?
That 6 bolt pulley hub is what I am using on my GT500 supercharger on my 98 two door, and my Cobra supercharger on my 2004 four door.
The shafts are the same size so yes.

And the Cobra and Lightning pulleys that VMP make, fit the 6 bolt hub that they make.

Well in other news, I just tried pressing the rotors out. No dice. I have a little 12 ton press and it wouldn’t even crack em.

Deja-vu

yours were a ***** i take it
In another thread a few days ago I made a comment that I thought my 12 ton press was fine and I was told no
a 20 ton was better to have for larger jobs like axle bearings etc...

I've been able to do everything so far with my 12ton
Now I know it's only matter of time

And everything on my m90 came apart easy just like in the thread posted above its a real pain to get back together correct with no rotor contact
I was lucky I had some help

so i had a brain fart.

instead of getting a new hub, or new pulley and waiting till who knows for them to ship and me standing in a snow bank trying to put everything back together, why not just redrill the hub????

121532929_2757130741275323_5459109910238642514_n.jpg

figured it would be worth a shot and not have to worry how badly i bugger it up trying to get the old bolt out. that and if it doesnt work, it only has to last over the winter starting it up and moving it around so i can shovel snow around in the back anyway.

so i just spent the last hour putting it back together. going to wait till tomorrow to fire it up and add oil so the sealant can dry overnight.

121522679_988896881628568_8953668387261046049_n.jpg

by hand it seems to spin easy so i dont think anything is binding either.

Nice I like everything
Really quick to
Except the rtv
I was gonna suggest drilling but didn't want to look dumb lol

Problems like this is why I keep a complete rebuild kit for my blower ...and other stuff to ....
Having it around will ensure it will least forever because I spent money on the rebuild kit

Nice job!

the spare crap that dono and I have laying around is staggering. Not to mention the 3 parts trucks.

Nice job!

thanks Andy, as I said you need to get you one of these!

Just check your blower oil over the next couple days

I would love to get the bigger blower for mine.. At a minimum I think I'm going to be changing the oil in my M90 this winter.
