Rough Idle and Noise from Intake(?)

Short update, between work and the weather, I haven't had a chance to unhook the battery yet. It does seem that things have changed, but it's more of a sideways step. Since replacing the IAC, I believe the noise is mostly gone. However I am noticing now that it takes longer to start, and once...

Rough Idle and Noise from Intake(?)

By resetting the computer, do you mean unhooking the battery for 5 minutes or so?

Rough Idle and Noise from Intake(?)

Update, I tried cleaning the IAC valve, no improvement. So I replaced the IAC, but I'm still seeing the same symptoms. After driving it around the block it may be slightly better, but that may also be me being optimistic. Any ideas on what to check next?

Rough Idle and Noise from Intake(?)

Hi Everyone. I’ve got a 1993 Explorer XLT that has developed a strange noise under the hood and a rough idle. In the last week I’ve noticed that it seems harder to start, and idle seems to be quite rough. A couple of times it has died while idling. As of today it is stumbling so much at idle...

4x4 Shift Motor Rebuild Issues - Sealant

Hello everyone. I started a shift motor rebuild last night and ran into an issue and was looking for advice. I got the shift motor uninstalled pretty easily. I ran into one issue where I did not see the word push on the connector tabs, and spent quite a while trying to pry them up. Once I...

    Rear Leaf Questions

I’m looking for some advice on how to proceed with the rear springs on my explorer. A while back I looked underneath and noticed on the driver’s side, the back half of the 2nd leaf broke off and is no longer there. Both the driver’s and passenger springs are very rusty. The shackles are also...

Broken brake line - empty reservoir

So I got the rear bleeders loose without issue. I plan on replacing them because they are super rusty. I found that the line that rusted out is the metal line going from the rear "T" to the drivers side. For now, I can just replace that section correct? It looked like there is a fitting on the T...

Broken brake line - empty reservoir

Thanks for all the responses so far! To clarify a bit, the shop said the front hoses were both cracked and about to fail, and they said they had to replace those due to liability. Since they couldn't get any of the bleeders loose, that's why they racked up the charges. I realized how much the...

Broken brake line - empty reservoir

The other day I was getting off the interstate, and when I went to brake the pedal went all the way to the floor. I got out and checked and found a puddle of brake fluid under the rear driver's side wheel. I was able to top off the MBC and limp home. I took it in to the shop the next day...

    Overflow tank empty

Hey Everyone, I received my explorer from my dad about a year a go now. The other day I was filling the wiper fluid, and decided to look at the coolant as well. I checked the overflow tank and it was bone dry. I always thought it had coolant before but I believe it was just stained. At first...

    Tranny flush and secondary filter

Alright well I ran into a minor problem. The trans-dapt 1028 that I ordered straight from Trans-dapt did not come with the brass nipples to connect the hoses. Also, the 1028 is threaded for 1/2"NPT. My understanding is the aux cooler line is 3/8"s ID. I have been having a bit of trouble finding...

    Tranny flush and secondary filter

Hey everyone. I ordered my remote filter adapter and plan on installing it this weekend. I ended up going with the Trans-Dapt 1028 adapter which I ordered from Amazon since I get free 2 day shipping. It looks like both the adapter and the radiator / aux cooler use 3/8 line so I'm good there. My...

    Tranny flush and secondary filter

Thanks for all the help guys. I’ve changed tranny fluid before, but not on anything that had been left this long before. I guess my thinking was every day with this old fluid is causing extra wear and tear, and I should try and change as much off it as possible to stop any extra damage now. I’m...

    Tranny flush and secondary filter

I've been trying to catch up all on the preventive maintenance on my explorer and after reading on here the next thing in line is the tranny. As far as I know the tranny oil/ filter has never been changed. My family got the explorer from my grandma with 35-40k. It hasn’t been changed since we...

    Limited Slip help

Hello All, I’ve been doing lots of research on my explorer, and I recently discovered it has a limited slip rear end. As far as I can tell it’s not working. I’ve never felt it “hook up” before. I did some searches here and one of the ways to test it is to jack up both rear tires and with the...

Not sure what to check - Codes 181, 185, 186

Sorry all I don't mean to revive an old thread, but replacing the MAF sensor did the trick for me. I went to the junkyard and checked all the MAF sensors I could find, and bought the one that looked the cleanest and in the best shape, that was an OEM part. Cleaned it with MAF cleaner and put it...

    4x4 won't engage when cold

MayJan, Good idea on cleaning the connections! I'll try to do that tonight after dealing with my power window problems. Also, I was just thinking about that module. I had read the troubleshooting thread back when I was having problems, but it was too cold out for me to actually want to do any...

    4x4 won't engage when cold

gmbroy, Would doing a rebuild of the shift motor per this thread (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123542) help? The rebuild didn't seem to focus on the actual motor all that much ie new brushes so I wasn't sure if it would help. If not, would it be worth pulling one from the...

    4x4 won't engage when cold

Hello All, I've been working on fixing all the little glitches my explorer has, and with summer ending I'm thinking I should address the 4 wheel drive. I've went through the 4x4 troubleshooting thread, but it doesn't directly address my issue. I've only had my explorer for 8 months now, but...

    Front end suspension noises?

Hi All, I’m hoping you can help me diagnose the problem I’m having in my front end that I’m having a hard time with. I don't think it’s too complicated, I just don’t have a lot of experience with these. I've got a 93 explorer xlt with 109,000. I've got a few odd noises coming from the front...

Not sure what to check - Codes 181, 185, 186

It took me forever to get ahold of the tamper proof bit but I finally did. I pulled the MAF out and it looked kind of dirty but not terrible. I cleaned it off let it dry for quite awhile and tried it out. I'm still having the same problems as before. It seems like it might be running a little...

Not sure what to check - Codes 181, 185, 186

Hello Everyone, I have a 92 explorer with 108,000 miles, and I’m having some problems but I’m not sure where to start. I’m not sure if these three problems are related or not, so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. 1. First, and most prominent, happens everytime I start...
