Going to be swapping a rebuilt 5R55S transmission into my 2003 Explorer 2wd tomorrow. I know I can pour fluid into the speed sensor hole before I install, but how much? Is it ok to pour ~10 quarts in, start it up and add the remaining 2 or so? Or is that too much and it's going to blow a seal...

I don't have a source....just scrounging junkyards. Last set I found were in Roseburg. I believe using Ford outers, they'll be a 1/4" too short and you wont be able to get a clip on the end of the axle. You'll want the wagoneer or a chevy 44 outer.

Haven't touched it, priorities have changed and the Ex is on the backburner. Baby on the way, and new house to be built. So for now it's sitting.:(

Pretty much what he said! Lot's of thick brushy trails where I run, and it helps protect the front end, and the auxiliary lights I will be adding. Plus I think it looks cool!;)

All the pics I have are on the thread. As far as mounting, basically what you see in the first few pics. The angle iron bolts to my cross member, everything ties into that. The back of the fairlead sticks out 9.5" from the grill. Then the fair lead another 2" or so and the tube comes out...

Just shredded mine too again. 4th u-joint so far, only the second time it's taken out the axles. I'm cheap so I was looking at some Alloy USA X-joints. Not much more than spicer, can grease each cap individually and comes with full circle clips. Anyone have any luck with them?? Going to...

So wheeling today was pretty fun. Joined a local forum and it was all those guys + my main wheeling buddy. Tested out the winch when I got high centered, pulled me off no problem! Had to head back when I busted both passenger side axle shafts! Don't know why I can't keep axles together in...

Lights mount to the top of the fairlead. Speaking of lights, what do people recommend?? I NEED something cheap and WANT something large and slim. 4wheelparts.com had a pair of 7.5" Daystars for $46 shipped! But I received an email saying they were discontinued!:( I found the same set on Ebay...

I know it's just Paint, but I'm having a really hard time deciding.... Maybe no tube?? But I want to run auxiliary lights in the middle above the winch.

The clevis mounts are welded to 2 faces. The 1/4" triangle in front, and the edge of the 1/4" side plate you see in the first pics of the build. I don't see any problem with strength.......hopefully I'm right!:rolleyes: The control box goes on top, just don't have it on for the pic.

I couldn't help myself and had to bolt it all together!:D I'm very happy with how it came out. Everything is done except tubing and I bought some 3/4" x 1/8" to run along the edge to fill the gap below the headlights and the rest of the way around. Then i'll grind all the little boogers off...
