    Lower thermostat housing question...

Thanks for the responses so far.... Stick_Man - Yes, the 8mm socket was attached to a universal joint and, as you said, no - that won't work... Just upgraded the ratcheting socket and I will see if some sort of cheater is a possibility. Also, thanks for the tips on being able to work around...

    Lower thermostat housing question...

I will preface this post by saying that I have looked everywhere for a definitive answer for my questions already both on this board and on the web in general. This isn't a lazy request for easily found information but a real request for help because I'm stumped! I own a 2000 Ford Explorer...

    Bypass hose replacement

Yeah, the pliers would certainly help. We have some in the tool room at work I can borrow.... I'm rapidly getting to this point. Feels like the shank on the end of the t'stat housing is so long that there is precious little room to make it all "gee and haw"

    Bypass hose replacement

Hello - I have a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport with the 4.0L V6 SOHC. I've gotten a nasty leak on the bypass hose underneath the thermostat. When I saw the leak I thought "Well, this will be a cinch." It hasn't been thus far. I have questions regarding this little turd that I'm hoping...

    Rear end question

I'm stumped. I found myself under the back end of my explorer this afternoon and saw something that isn't right. For the record, this is a 2000 Sport 4WD (6 cyl SOHC) with a 5R55E transmission. The truck has +/- 150k miles on it. I was going to put a picture up, but I cannot post...

    P0174

New air filter on Tuesday night. CEL on Thursday PM - she's throwing one code: P0174 lean on bank 2. Based on what I've read here, new air filter often equals dirty MAF which can result in P0171 or P0174 - correct? I'm thinking the correct course of action is to clean the MAF per the...

    Rolling idle & periodic overheating

Crawled cooling system last night and topped it off with coolant. She was a smidge low. Changed air filter (she was due anyway) and I'm going to work on cleaning the mass air this week. All that said, I cleaned the IACV and man, what a difference that made. The idle smoothed out...

    Rolling idle & periodic overheating

As soon as you get moving again, engine temp drops. Will also have them check for codes.

    Rolling idle & periodic overheating

Thermostat was replaced back in November. Will climb cooling system this evening and look for anything obvious. Have already pulled instructions on cleaning IAC, will look for MAF instructions next. EDIT - wouldn't have some kind of light come on to indicate that there would be codes to pull?

    Rolling idle & periodic overheating

All- Long time non-registered lurker, first time poster. I've used the search function trying to narrow the cause of this problem down but figured I'd bounce it off y'all and see what y'all think. I drive a 2000 Sport 4WD V6 SOHC. I am the only owner and got it waaaay back in 1999. It has...
