Timing chain set replaced, new rattle

Identified the problem and is now fixed. Had a stuck lifter. Was able to remove the lifter from the head without removing the cam, just barely. Cleaned, primed and installed. All good now except for minor chain rattle - gives character.

    2001 SOHC Lifter/lash Adjuster Replacement

Can the valve lifter/lash adjusters in a SOHC 2001 4.0 be replaced without removing the cam? I see many posts about the engine with pushrods, but not SOHC.

Timing chain set replaced, new rattle

2001 4.0 Had timing chains replaced - complete set. Now, about three weeks later there is a rattle from the driver side isolated at valve cover above the 2nd spark plug from the front. Used a wooden rod-to-ear to isolate the source area. Rattle is louder at idle and almost non audible with...

    Adding Subwoofer

I acquired a factory sub woofer, amp, box set up and a line out converter. Hooked everything up and nothing from the subwoofer. Below is the wiring set up at the amp. Can someone let me know if the wiring set up is incorrect or any ideas? ( I did ohm the subwoofer and measured 3.5 ohms.)...

    Adding Subwoofer

I did discover the factory placement and building a box is definitely an option. I currently have the factory radio (CD and cassette option ). Was considering more modern radio option which led to the subwoofer option discovery. Not sure if my radio has subwoofer connections, but most newer...

    Adding Subwoofer

I'm thinking of adding subwoofer to my 2001 Explorer XLT (not Sport Trac). Not looking to rattle any windows, just create a more full sound. Since this was built without a subwoofer from factory, looking for any ideas and thoughts of adding the setup ( box location, speaker, amp, wiring...

    Keyless Entry

Having issues with keyless entry with my 2001 Explorer XLT. Replaced key fob and batteries, but still having issues. It did work fine then suddenly stopped. Was able to reprogram new fob, but the system reacted intermittently when the buttons are pushed during programming and general use. One...

    Transmission Dipstick Tube (Lower)

Have 2001, 4.0L and working through a transmission leak. Decided to start easy and replace the dipstick o-ring. However, noticed the dipstick tube is actually two pieces. The upper piece is what one would expect, but this fits into a lower tube (about 6-7 inches long) that leads into the...

    Sticky Paint

I was thinking along the same with all of your points. I'm not concerned with cosmetics more the build up of dirt and trash along the channel. In theory, if this does harden at a later date, the dirt will be there as well.

    Sticky Paint

About a month ago I painted the roof of my 2001 Explorer XLT due to the common/notable paint fade. Now I noticed the rain channels that runs the length of the roof that's about 1-2 inches above the doors on both sides are sticky. All other parts of the roof that was painted is fine (not sticky)...

    AC/Heat Vacuum Lines

Thanks for all your help. I do not have a heater flow valve, so I plugged the gray hose. The fuel regulator is on the other side and has a vacuum connected. So I started at the vacuum reservoir ball. The red went to the supply hose to the reservoir. Someone did a cheap patch job and the broken...

    AC/Heat Vacuum Lines

Can someone help identify and tell me how these are to be connected? The red one has intake vacuum and the white one I "think" is for the heater control flow valve (which I do not have). If I pull vacuum on the white one, I get air distribution selection (defrost, registers, floor, etc). Also...

    Oil Pan

Appreciate your advise. I was able to get it off, overlooked the long hex bolt in the rear. All is back together and hopefully no leaks.

    Oil Pan

I am trying to remove the upper oil pan on 2001 XLT with 4.0 V6 2WD. I have removed the lower pan, all of the perimeter bolts, the 8 bolts that go into the mains, the 2 transmission bolts in the rear, and oil pump screen. The upper pan is very stubborn and solidly attached to the block. Tried...
