Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

The calipers, rotors, and pads were replaced under my extended warranty in 2016. I don’t think they charged me for them in 2017, I had tires replaced and some other work done at the same time. I would have to pull the paperwork to be sure, but I think I paid for them in 2015, but could be wrong.

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

The three sets before today were done at a Ford dealership so I would hope they were done properly and lubed. I could see the slide rail grease on them when they were replaced last year, but did not remove the pins to check them. I used to change my own brakes and do most of the other work...

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

I think I remeber reading at least a few others that had calipers seize and need replacing, but I will try to read back through the thread sometime. Just glad I have my vehicle back on the road for now.

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

Took the Explorer in today. One caliper had seized and the brakes had been hot on the other side. He said the pads were not seizing up in the rail clips and the brackets looked fine under the clips. I had him to go ahead and replace both calipers and mounting brackets. Caught it in time before...

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

Yes I agree there is a problem. The first time this happened, one of the rear brakes over heated. I took it to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong and said there was over half of the pad surface left. Two months later and less than 2,000 miles the brakes and rotors were completely...

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

I used to change my own brakes until I bought my 2011 Explorer and I never cleaned or removed rust from the caliper brackets either on any vehicle I owned and never had this problem. I recently had some work done at an independent shop on our 2011 Edge and I feel that they will clean the rust...

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

Yep, that’s why I am going to take it somewhere else and ask them to clean the brackets, etc. and see if that helps.

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

No they act like they have never heard of it before. Like I say I have owned many vehicles including two other explorers, T-birds, Broncos, and have driven the same roads they same way for the past 42 years and have never had this problem. So I feel sure it is a problem with the brakes.

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

Yes it has been the same Ford dealer all three time and I have asked and told them the brakes should not be wearing out that quickly. There are no problems with braking on the vehicle. They replaced the calipers once. The rotors have been replaced twice. I have owned vehicles for 42 years and...

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

Fourth set of rear brakes worn out in 10,000 miles in my 2011 Explorer. It goes through a set of rear brakes every year. Had the last three sets put on at the dealer. Going to an independent service shop this time.

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

I am surprised there hasn’t been a recall on this since it is a safety concern.

Ford Explorer: Are Your Rear Brakes Dragging... Most Likely Yes!

I am having my third set of rear brakes installed in 65,000 miles on my 2011. Already had both calipers and rotors replaced on the rear 14,000 miles ago. Ford really should step up and take some responsibility in this rear brake problem. Having to replace rear brakes every 14,000 miles is...

Foul Smell in Cabin From Vents / AC

Mine also has this smell for a short bit after it sits when the A/C comes on and it is worse after a rain. It is not the cabin air filter. I replaced the filter and still had the smell. The A/C drain from the evaporator is clear and appears to be draining.

    MFT Black / Blank Screen

Our 2011 Edge did the same thing. Dealer had to replace what they called the Sync Module. It now works better than it ever did.

    Question about IPOD

It does not download the songs, it indexes them. I used an iPod a few times at first, but I cannot remember if it indexes it every time it is unplugged and plugged back in. I bought a 16gb USB drive and put songs on it and just leave it plugged all the time.

Got update at dealer but didn't get the booklets.

I did not get any for my Explorer when the dealer upgraded it. We did get them in the mail for our Edge. I read through the upgrade instructions and glanced at the booklet, but there was not a lot of information in my opinion.

*OFFICIAL* MFT - MyFord Touch v2 Software Bugs and Fixes Thread

I thought I read somewhere of this happening to someone else, but could not find it. Today all of the buttons changed to a red background. Everything works, but the buttons are red until you press one then it goes back to gray and the others stay red.

A faster, simpler, better myford touch is here - MFT Update

I must have been typing the same time you were. Both ways may work. In fact I was surprised that the VHR would update it and asked him three times about running the status checker.
