    Need Part# for A/C Line

Thanks for the reply. So in order to replace the line, I must replace the evaporator core? It appears that I can replace the line itself, which is the route I would like to go. I do have the option of having it tig welded.

    Need Part# for A/C Line

I need the part number for this A/C hard line. It is underneath the low pressure side and connects to the rubber hose running to the condensor. I sprayed some soapy water on the lines and you can see where the leak is.

Pulling Engine - Maintenance Parts to replace?

1996 Explorer 4.0L V6 OHV I was recently in an accident, and it was cheaper buying another Explorer with a blown motor than to fix mine up. I will be swapping the motor from mine into the "new" Explorer. While I have the engine out, I'm planning on throwing in new main & rod bearings. Oil...

Front end accident - Doesn't go over 35mph after repairs

Good news, it's fixed. I took it back to the shop, and they were able to track it down within 15 minutes. The air cleaner got pinched shut when I was hit on the P/S fender. They opened it back up, and now it runs great plus they did not charge me anything extra. Thanks for both of your...

Front end accident - Doesn't go over 35mph after repairs

So what do you recommend that I do? This is the first time I have taken my vehicle in for service (besides alignment & tires) in several years. I feel more comfortable doing the work myself and knowing it has been done right but I don't have the time or tools at this time. I crawled underneath...

Front end accident - Doesn't go over 35mph after repairs

Ok, I crawled underneath and noticed the dust shield is rubbing against the rotors. That is the metal binding noise I'm hearing. I drove it around again, and it accelerates fine up to 35 mph, and it feels as if the fuel is getting cut off. I noticed the "Instant MPG" readout is exactly the...

Front end accident - Doesn't go over 35mph after repairs

The impact was probably 30-35mph. It bent the inner tie rod at a 45 degree angle. The shop was able to get my Explorer in right away, as they were slow. They did mention a bent upper control arm, but I told them of my financial situation with my moving soon and they were able to get the...

Front end accident - Doesn't go over 35mph after repairs

I got into a front end collision yesterday. I was hit on the front passenger's side wheel and damaged the inner/out tie rods and spindle. I had those replaced today along with an alignment and picked up the car after the shop was closed. As I was driving home, I noticed it would not go over...

Squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel

If it sounds like a "rubbery" sound, more than likely it's due to worn out suspension components. Track down where the noise is coming from. Get yourself a grease gun and start greasing your ball joints & tie rod ends one by one. If any of the balls joints/tie rod ends do not have grease...

4.0L Upper EGR Tube O-Ring Is Constantly Leaking

Thank you! That will save me some time trying to find the right size.

Squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel

Yes. I just replaced my lower ball joints after experiencing the same problems.

4.0L Upper EGR Tube O-Ring Is Constantly Leaking

It really bugs me when I cannot figure out small/minor issues... I have replaced the o-ring 5 times for the EGR tube that connects to the upper intake manifold. Everytime I remove the old one, it appears to look deformed and I can see the area it's leaking from. When I install a new one, I...

    Touchy/Bad Handling - 4WD?

1996 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4.0 Automatic 4x4 I bought this 6 months ago with it needing a little bit of work. I got the 4WD to work by replacing a speed sensor on the transfer case. I can now engage 4WD Hi on the fly. One thing that I have noticed is the steering seems to be very touchy...

    Moonroof woes...

I just tried opening the moonroof for the first time since February. It starts to open but it immediately stops. It's like something is stuck in the track. I can see the back of the lid begin to tilt down to slide back but it stops there. I can tilt it up no problems. Is this a common problem...

Running boards the same on both sides?

Good stuff guys. I appreciate it. I figured they were different, but was hoping there may have been a chance they weren't.

Running boards the same on both sides?

I've got a '96 Explorer Eddie Bauer and I need to replace the D/S running board. Is the D/S and P/S running boards identical? The reason I ask is because all the ones at the junkyard has a good P/S running board but I need the D/S.

Same gas mileage with 4x4 and 2wd

I believe I have a faulty speed sensor on the transfer case which causes the 4x4 and 4x4 Low lights to flash if I drive over 35mph. The 4x4 still works, but with the flashing lights. In 4x4 Auto, I think the fronts are engaging all the time. While I am waiting on the part to arrive, I would...

    Problem burping coolant!

Could you please give reasons why you think this is to be the case? There is no signs of coolant in the oil (or vice versa), no signs of burning coolant, or no exhaust gas in the cooling system. I have not yet done a compression check, but I'm pretty confident I will have pretty even numbers...

    Problem burping coolant!

Great tip! I understand the stock temp gauge is just "dummy" gauge that moves based on the resistance values, but if you were to guess, where abouts on the temp gauge would read 190-200 degrees? I would imagine it is smack dab in the middle since that's where the gauge climbs to before it...

Fluctuating Temp Gauge with Heater On

I believe the temp gauge is working properly. When the heater is off, the temp gauge reads steady. With the heater on, it fluctuates which I believe is from the air bubbles passing through the thermostat housing. The gurgling of the heater core is a good indication that there is a large air...

Fluctuating Temp Gauge with Heater On

That's a big help! Thank you! Are those values the same for both thermo-sensors (sending units)?

    Problem burping coolant!

Any updates yet? I'm going through this same problem and it is very frustrating! I will have to try out the hot water trick.

Fluctuating Temp Gauge with Heater On

I believe there is air trapped in the system, but I am at my wits end trying to get it out. At idle with the heater on, the temp gauge reads steady. Once I start moving and put load on the engine, the need slowly climbs up to the middle, and takes a nose dive down to the "C" notch. This is when...

Fluctuating Temp Gauge with Heater On

Thanks for the replies...I really appreciate it. The heater control valve is brand new. It does not leak. I have replaced the thermostat, radiator cap, and even the replaced the coolant return hose. I will get the heater control valve mounted with the nipple pointing up. As for the...

Fluctuating Temp Gauge with Heater On

I just recently picked up a '96 Explorer Eddie Bauer (4.0L) and replaced the head gaskets. It is running pretty good so for besides an issue with the temp gauge only when the heater is on. The heater is blowing out hot air. When the heater is on, the temp gauge will climb normally to the...
