    Nitrous 1994 Explorer

Yea you need to cut the plug open to tell lean/rich with any sort of accuracy. I had best luck at 18 psi in my Michelin ms2's. I could cut a consistent 2.1-2.2 60' in a 2000ft+ da. Your shift points sound right. Stock cam is a dog.

    Nitrous 1994 Explorer

Very very cool. Can't wait to see some time slips as this project evolves. If you are 4x4 and trapping around 65 at the top of third you probably have 4:10's. what rpm are ripping 2nd gear at? What rpm are you hitting 3rd?

    '99 ohv 4.0 cam build

Rough milling of a couple pistons is complete. Oil holes also drilled to match the '99 units. Again, my goal is to replicate the dimensions of '99 pistons while adjusting for slightly different castings. The first gens should still be stronger when I'm through with them. I'll post my cut...

Hi JD, I'll try to address all your points. The motor is in fact balanced, or at least mine is very well. Largest variation is 5.8g. See my weight card below. I don't want to use first gen crank because it would have to be heavier partially defeating the purpose of using first gen pistons...

Update*** Engine build is slow at the moment. I have some catching up to do with the threads, however, I am very happy to see the builds on here becoming more radical by the month. Currently I am attempting to get first gen ohv pistons to work in a '99 bottom end(compression increase). I...

Update Hey ya'll been awhile. Sct took so long to get me the tuning software that it was too late and I needed to drive the Explorer for work. I ended up swapping it back to na in a weekend. I was frustrated with how much of a pain in the ass sct was to deal with. I never even got the software...

    Tnashua's 4.0 OHV rebuild...

head plugs when my machinist cut my valve seats and guides he installed the plugs for me. He did use thread sealant. I didn't ask what kind but it's orange in color. And on the pushrods, as JD said, SmithBros are the ones to get. If that's not a possibility I would definitely bend them...

    Tnashua's 4.0 OHV rebuild...

yea man look up our threads in the Need for Speed section. We have ALL asked the same questions you are asking. The rockers are so hard I couldn't even scratch one with a good punch, so I doubt modding them will be easy. No one has had trouble with the Sealed Power rockers even in performance...

Haha nice I actually just found them on Summit thanks to Don for sending me part#s while back. Thank goodness you said something. They are waayyyy cheaper on summit. Halfway affordable now. Now that I recall I think the gaskets I have are orange or red. I shall do the blue ones. Thanks edit...

Alright Ill check Summit for the studs. And I think I already have the good Fel-pro gaskets. dude, SI valves, 422 cam and 988 springs have been installed for like 2 years ;) Yea I figured the guides would have to be one-off pieces. Guess that will be the next build.

Yes I know lol. When I saw the gauge climb over 5psi I said "oh ****!!!" and it quickly ran up to 11 when a hose popped. I kept my foot to the floor cause I was desperate for a datalog for James. When the hose blew at 90mph I bout shat miself haha. Luckily a dude at the gas station at the exit...

this might help some. A few numbers here. Length will be different depending on cam of course.

here is another of the Smith Bros rod comparison. Think they were $120 shipped. Copy that on JD and Don. Sealed Power rockers. Smith Bros rods that I cant find my spec sheet on. Tom Morana has a set of adjustable roller rockers but like me they are not likely in your price range. If you go...

Turbo-back Exhaust So as mentioned earlier I went with a 3" Borla oval style center/offset. The muffler is a bit shorter than my other one. This one is 14" instead of 18" and also made of a slightly lower grade stainless, but the fit, finish and I assume packing seem to be the same quality as...

    '99 ohv 4.0 cam build

Tuning I got in contact with James about tuning options. He pointed out that my 90mm maf set up for blow through as I have it probably wont be good for much over 5psi, if that even. He said resolution is lost when it's used in that way, which makes perfect sense. not sure why I didn't think of...

got the IAT sensor hooked up properly, new Autolite racing plugs, and made a breather oil fill cap. Took it for a drive and it runs great no codes. A/F now sits around 12-14:1 putting around. I pulled 8 degrees out of the 87 octane tune. That's all I can pull with the strategy function on the...

    '99 ohv 4.0 cam build

I like the venturi idea. I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as there is enough air velocity. For muffler I plan to go with the BorlaXS 3" in and out, offset/center. It's not as nice as the 2.25" BorlaTurboXL I have but it should be plenty quiet with the turbo on there. I have been very...

    '99 ohv 4.0 cam build

Pics Ok I emailed James and provided in detail the whole dealio with mods and iat related stuff. Ok so my 90mm maf is missing the outside wires for the IAT. They are the solid gray and gray/red. So Don, you just spliced in a "stand alone" Ford sensor. I kinda rather go to the junkyard cause...

Yea I've had an SCT for some time now. The software from James is $325. I want the tuning guides from LaSota Racing though. If I get the software from James and the guides from LaSota it will cost $444. If I get everything from LaSota with their package price it will cost $444. However LaSota...

well turbo is installed and everything works. Today I'm going to install the boost gauge to see where things are. Half throttle and 2500 rpm seem to be where the turbo begins to spool. My big problem is the A/F. It's running mega rich with those 39lb injectors. Cruising is around 10-11:1 and...
