    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

Thanks! Any way to easily check if it's a cracked head or a blown gasket? I am already into the mechanic for $200 just for the diagnosis so far, +a few other things. I might try the gasket seal, but common sense seems that it might also seal up the thermostat, the heater core, the...

    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

Follow up: Has anyone ever heard of K&W block seal or had any experience with it?

    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

No known history until I bought it at the end of '03 with 22k on it. The truck came from Arizona. With regular maintenence I did myself, it ran fine for 5 years until the beginning of this year when I noticed the heater wouldn't heat the cabin in the winter. Coolant was very dirty and a sludge...

    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

Time to junk an '00 Explorer with only 44k?? Well, I finally went to a mechanic with the equipment to diagnose my problem of shuddering, poor gas mileage, foul smell, Check engine light, etc. After pressure testing the cooling system, he told me "you have anti-freeze filling up 3 cylinders"...

    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

Is there a "check" for a clogged catalytic conv. or do you just have to take it off and see?

    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

Thanks Mike, Could it be possible to have a clogged catalytic conv. with only 44K miles on it? Never bought cheap gas. How would you check for a clogged cat? Cleaning the IAC helped ALOT (driveable again) but some shuddering still remains on acceleration.

    Help! Explorer shuddering, barely accelerating.

 Could use some advice here. Anything to get the truck in driveable condition to have codes read at autozone. I have been having a misfire problem in #3 for some time now which was alleviated by new plugs/wires/cleaned MAF/new air filter/ about 6 months ago. It recently returned with a...

    Fuel Filter Replacement

:banghead: What is the best and easiest way to depressurize the fuel system to change the fuel filter on a 2000 Explorer Sport? Also, what is the name of the tool that you need to remove the old filter? Thanks:salute:

Rough Idle (cold) & Poor gas mileage

Very interesting. I had a check engine light and it came up with a cyl 3 misfire too! I pulled the plug, checked for a spark (there was a spark) and put it back in. Check engine light went off the next day. I put some techron Fuel injector cleaner in and the light has stayed off.

Rough Idle (cold) & Poor gas mileage

Coolant smell went away after the plugs were changed. To address the heat, I assumed the blend door was broken, but it wasn't. The only thing that brought back heat was new anti-freeze, flushing and back flushing the core, and springtime:) Gas mileage still sux, but I am attributing that to a...

    Check Engine Light

Thanks, plugs and wires are new and there IS a spark:thumbsup: Haven't changed the ignition coil. After doing some searching, I found this about getting your PCM updated. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209345 Could this be the tranny problem? Does anyone have any...

    Check Engine Light

No, meinecke didn't clear the check engine light. My question is what (if a spark exists) could cause a specific cylinder to consistently misfire? If the fuel injector, what is the fix? Oh yeah, I did replace the wires and plugs about 3 months ago. Thanks!

    Check Engine Light

P0303 Cylinder #3 Misfire OK, it seems like I have a few problems here so I will tackle the Cylinder misfire on #3 first. I pulled the plug and it looked ok except some light brown sludge hardened up near the top right below the threads that screw it into the engine. I do have a spark after...

    Check Engine Light

Hey folks, I just got a check engine light. I took it into Meineke and the dude took about an hour to tell me this: P0303 Cylinder #3 misfire PO733 Incorrect gear ratio P1000 OBD 11 test/drive cycle not complete My Explorer suffers from the 2-3 shift flare and we have been ignoring it...

    Power Window out of track

glass-metal adhesive I like the logic of the rear-view mirror adhesive, but that is holding a stationary RV mirror to a stationary windshield. If I used that, every time I hit the down button, that's tugging at the bond, and I would be praying I wouldn't hear that THUNK as the bond breaks...

    Power Window out of track

Window already IS completely separated from the two U-shaped metal "brackets" that hold onto the bottom of the glass. No glass-to-metal connection exists. I am talking about where the metal actually touches the glass.

    Power Window out of track

Does anyone know the best adhesive/glue to reconnect the metal track to the bottom of the window? My window will go up, but thanks to an ice storm, wont go down.

No Heat in the Cabin 2000 2wd 4.0 OHV

Before I read that last post, I went ahead to Wal-Mart and bought the Prestone "flush and fill kit" for $3.55 and connected the tee to my heater hose and backflushed everything. Presto! I have heat and alot of it. Now I have a coolant system full of tap water, but ...just but. We are expecting a...

Transmission slips out of gear at 2500 RPM

Sorry for being such an amateur, but by reading similar posts, no "run of the mill" code reader can pinpoint the error code for a blinking "O/D off" dashboard light. Can a place like autozone do this or is a tranny shop only equipped with this type of code reader? Better yet, does anyone have a...

No Heat in the Cabin 2000 2wd 4.0 OHV

Quick follow up, after researching all of the discussion I decided it was the blend door and to skimp and try to manually open and close the blend door twice a year. After dropping the glove box and cutting a hand size hole in the plenum, I reached back and couldn't budge the blend door. I...

Transmission slips out of gear at 2500 RPM

2-3 shift flare :exp:Thanks for helping me narrow this down. After reading about the 2-3 shift flare, it decribes perfectly what my tranny is doing. If it matters, I forgot to include that my O/D off light is blinking now as well. My question is this: Is there one simple, definitive fix...

Transmission slips out of gear at 2500 RPM

I have a 2000 Explorer Sport 2wd AUTO Transmission w/OD. (4.0 OHV engine) and recently noticed the transmission slipping at around 2500 RPM, the engine revs up to about 3000 RPM, and then the tranny "catches" in the next gear. It only seems to happen from 1st-2nd gear at around 20-30 MPH. Any...

No Heat in the Cabin 2000 2wd 4.0 OHV

I do smell coolant, but only from outside the car. I assumed it was from some of the coolant I spilled when changing the thermostat a week ago. If the core was leaking, wouldn't the smell be from inside the cabin? Also, excuse my ignorance, but what and where is the "blend door"? I assume it is...

No Heat in the Cabin 2000 2wd 4.0 OHV

After an overdue coolant change and thermostat replacement, still no heat coming from blower. Blower motor works fine, just lots of cold air. Temp guage started working again after thermostat was changed. Is heater core the only thing left. If so, is it possible to remove from under the glove...

Rough Idle (cold) & Poor gas mileage

Quick follow up: Rough idle at start up seems better after plugs and wires changed. Plug from #3 cyl. fouled with oil-all other plugs had normal wear. Next I changed thermostat (old one looked siezed up) Had warm air out of the blower for about 5 mins. while I "test rided" my #20 torx back...
