sounds like I damaged it somehow when I did my engine swap. When I removed the engine, I didn't unbolt the torque converter from the torque plate. Noobie mistake I guess.

    leak help

Redish brown. I wipe up area around the leak and it won't continue leaking, but when I drive it, I have fluid all over that area due to the wind blowing the fluid on the bottom. I do get spots in the driveway, but it doesn't keep dripping after i wipe it up. Jeff

    leak help

What would be causing a leak where the engine and the tranny meet? It doesn't leak when it's sitting overnight, just when I'm driving. Would that indicate something wrong with the torque converter? Should their be any tranny fluid in that area around the back side of the torque converter? Jeff

    Shroud between tranny and engine

I wonder what would happen if it was left out? But the tape idea sounds like the ticket.

    Shroud between tranny and engine

What is the purpose of the sheet metal shroud between the tranny and the engine. It's a PITA to keep in place while re-connecting the two. Is it just a shield for dirt? Thanks Jeff

    Torque converter and Tranny Fluid??

Two questions... Anyone have a DIY tranny fluid change procedure? 2004 Automatic, 4.0L. And, what is the approx. cost to replace the torque converter in my 04 if I took it to the ford dealer? Jeff

And if it's not a vibration issue? Any other things to check? Flex plate? Metal gasket that has the starter cutout?

    Torque Converter Noise? I think.

I've replaced my 4.0L in my 2004 Explorer and now I'm hearing a noise from the torque converter area that sounds almost like a exhaust shield rattle. But, it's only noticable around 2200 rpms or so. It goes away at higher rpms and also below 2200. If I put it in neutral and rev the engine to...

HELP! - Engine won't freeking come out

Well, I got the motor out. Whew! I opened up the valve cover, and there it was... The timing chain was completely off the sprocket and it chewed up the plastic guide and even slapped the one screw enought to wear some of the head away. And, it cracked my valve cover too. I was able to get at...

HELP! - Engine won't freeking come out

I'm just removing and replacing, I was just looking for better diagrams of the back side of the engine. Thanks for the help. I'll try that. I'm thinking that the engine will tilt back, but won't go down due to the engine mounts.

HELP! - Engine won't freeking come out

ALso, one last item. Is there a place to get exploded assembly drawings of the engine? I subscribed to Chilton's online thing and it stinks. It gives you the steps to take out the motor, but no pics.

HELP! - Engine won't freeking come out

Oh, I see the pic now. Looks like two bolts at the top of the housing. I definately didn't get them. I must get the plastic intake out of the way somehow. That last star drive bolt is so hard to reach.

HELP! - Engine won't freeking come out

Well, pulled the starter, but may have missed the torque converter bolts. I'm not sure where they are. Also, if you attached a picture of the bell housing, I'm not able to see it. And if the housing has eight bolts, the top two are impossible to get to. THe upper intake is in the way and I...

HELP! - Engine won't freeking come out

I'm trying to do an engine swap on my 2004 Explorer 4.0L. I unbolted everything, unhooked everything, but the dang motor won't budge off the tranny and come out. Is there a trick that I'm missing? And just to be sure, how many bolts hold on the tranny? I found 6. Any help is...
