Water pump failure leads to dead engine

The oil pump is right there under the timing chain. You might as well replace it after you spent $1K to tear the engine apart.

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

3.5, the only major issue was a PTU replacement. So given the explorer is capable of a all wheels down tow behind my new class c rv it was a no brainer to have the the pre-emptive replacement done.

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

Nah, my mechanic is super busy so I did not want to have any asks. It took a month for him to get to it as is, but with this kind of surgery you want to make sure the surgeon knows what they are doing.

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

Due to the horrible increases in car prices I went ahead and did the preemptive replacement at 200k. Was about $2200 with new timing chain kit and oil pump.

2021 Explorer XLT Travel Trailer towing issues.

I assume it is like seat belts. If they stop you for something else they could write you up for not having the controller.

2021 Explorer XLT Travel Trailer towing issues.

It is a bluetooth brake controller. I believe the poster had the full towing package with the line for the electric brakes. He needs a controller to modulate the brakes correctly for his trailering setup. So you might as well use a bluetooth controller. You hook it up in serial on the...

2021 Explorer XLT Travel Trailer towing issues.

You can get ones that use bluetooth from your phone, so you don't need any installation or mounts. I use the Curt Echo. Took a Passport from Virginia to northern Maine this year with a 4200 GVWR trailer. Add weight distribution hitch. No issues. The explorer should be better than the...

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

So what you are saying is in the past 9 years and 200k I should have checked the coolant level? How many miles do you have?

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

My serpentine belt broke the other day and one thing that is nice about the design was I could drive it home without having to worry about overheating. Sitting at about 200k with the original pump. I will take my chances and see how long it goes. Hard to tell how frequent the failure is given...

    Split Armrest Issue

The car is 9 years old, stuff is going to happen. Look at the videos to stich it. I did back in 2014 and it hasn't failed.

    Going from a 2013 to a 2020

Hi, I know there are people out there with the 2020, who had the previous generation. So I have had a 2013 for the past seven years and it had done well. I need to replace my wife's Rav 4 with something that can tow like the current Explorer, which she likes, and give us the room for two...

Taking the Explorer to the beach!

I have been going to Ocracoke/Hatteras since 2012 with my 5th gen, even spent a few days on Portsmouth, where tows are non-existent. Never had an issue, but I am also careful and try not to do anything stupid. I can't picture the air dam actually stopping you, though it may plow down some of...

    PTU Problems

Nah, I guess I was spoiled by my Rav with 8 years and 250k with no major issues. BTW: for anyone playing at home. Was a $1400 repair bill, 900 for the part, 500 labor. Local indie transmission shop, they have worked on a number of my cars. Anyone paying a $700 premium at the dealer is crazy.

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

Shelton, if they did an update in 2012, is the 2013 model year that bad?

    Aux line in noise

That is what I figured, in this case it is a headlight whine. I was just wondering if there was a way to fix it without having to tear down the dash.

    Aux line in noise

Not the cable, whine comes in even if there is not a cable plugged in.

    Aux line in noise

Hi, yes only on the drivers side and only on aux. No issue with the radio of cds. It is in the center console by the cigarette lighter.

    Aux line in noise

I have a 2013 base, and the sound system just has a line in for external devices. If I have the headlights on and the radio on aux I get a loud whine of interference on the drivers side. Passenger side is fine. Radio is fine as well. If I have a charger in the cigarette lighter it is even...

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer

Toyota 4Runner, BoF, V6, full sized spare, 23 gas tank.

    Code P1450

I never put any gas in the car after the initial shut off. If you watch the video I linked the guy explains the old design never failed but the new design fails pretty regularly.

    Code P1450

When I replaced the valve I did not clear the code. After a 100 or so miles it cleared itself and has not returned in the 1000s since.

    Battery Issues

If you are charging your battery consider a charger with a desulfator. I have a bunch of equipment that I only use occasionally and was going through batteries way to fast. Picked up a batteryminder with desulfator from amazon for $40 and it is amazing how it brings the battery back. I have...
