Need rear brake backing plates for 2005 Sport Trac

I looked and it is not compatible with the 2005 Sport trac. Sure wish it was!

Need rear brake backing plates for 2005 Sport Trac

No wearing here just New England rust. I took my rusted backing plates and cleaned them up in an electrolysis bath. Besides being quite thin there are quite a few holes in them when held up to the light. Welding at this point isn't an option for me. I'm not sure just how or if it's possible to...

Need rear brake backing plates for 2005 Sport Trac

I would love to swap them out. They are disc brakes all around right now, but the parking uses shoes. I'm not sure there is a way to update them configured as they are. If there is I'm all ears!

Rear Backing Plates 2005 Explorer Sport Trac

Pete I just gave them a call. They do not have any other than the one shown on their web site and those have been backordered for a least a year. Thanks for trying!

    Rear disc brake shields

CDW6212R That's a good idea I'll try the wanted section! Trying to find the wanted section?

    Rear disc brake shields

I do have disc brakes in the rear, but the rear parking brakes are the old shoe type. Correct me if I am wrong, but the conversion you mention isn't that for Explorers having rear shoes for braking?

    Rear disc brake shields

It is the backing plate. Welding at this point doesn't seem feasible I think it would just burn right through. They are pretty thin. After taking the backing plate off I soaked it in an electrolysis bath. Once de-rusted, cleaned and held up to the light you could see through it in multiple...

    Rear disc brake shields

Just thought I would say what has transpired with my rear brake backing plates. I did contact surplus yards around the western U.S., but unless I was willing to buy the entire rear end and pay for the shipping across the country no separate backing plates were available. I tried contacting the...

    Rear disc brake shields

For the rear Drivers side which I need the most 3L2Z-2B636-BA the right which I would replace since I have everything apart is 3L2Z-2B636-AA I did soak the part in my home made electrolysis tub. I was trying to think how I might mix up epoxy and cover the plate. Maybe pie in the sky or should I...

    Rear disc brake shields

Brooklyn Thanks for the info. I did put my part numbers in, but they show out of stock. Just to be sure I am going to give them a call. I did take a look a Dorman 924-230, and it wasn't even close. Mounting holes were way off.

    Rear disc brake shields

Well I finally had enough time to pull the axel again, a little PB blaster a few days ago on the threads and they back right out. Today probably in vain I'm going to ask the O'Reily parts store to compare a Dorman 924-230 with my rusted plate. Thought about repairing the old plate on the Sport...

    Rear disc brake shields

Thanks for responding Rick. Searched high, and low nobody has any. As far as used parts around here with all the salt they are likely to be just as bad. Wish I has access to the bone yards down south or west where salt isn't used.

    Rear disc brake shields

Just replaced my front rotors, and pads. While replacing the rears I noticed one side had an axle seal leak. So I figured out how to pull the axels, and replaced both the seals (a first for me). When taking off the rear parking brake shoes I noticed that the hole for the pin that pushes...

anyone ever change their caliper seals?

Just looked at the Ford Workshop Manual for a 2005 Sport Trac. No mention of anything holding piston boot in. Just states after removing pistons from bore "remove piston seals and boots". Boot meaning dust seal. Be carful not to damage the bore, but isn't there an edge on the top of the boot to...

anyone ever change their caliper seals?

LMHmedchemI did mine ~2 years ago. I don't recall any metal clip holding the seal in place. Take a look at Rock Auto they show a picture of both the inner and outer seal.

anyone ever change their caliper seals?

boominXplorer beat me to it. Yes I removed it with compressed air> The air nozzle had a rubber tip to seal around the bleeder valve threads. Just go slow with the air don't want things flying around. I hit it with the compressed air several times, and they will "pop" when they come out. The...

anyone ever change their caliper seals?

I rebuilt both the front and rear about two years ago. I purchased all the seals (Concentric) from Rock Auto. I cleaned up the calipers using electrolysis, painted them with caliper paint. Then reassembled with the new seals. The hardest part for me was getting the seals/piston back in the...

2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4wd front brake hydraulic flexible hose attachment

Ok I admit it I've got my stupid hat on. I have removed both my front calipers, and am changing rotors, pads, and the hydraulic hoses. In a previous post I was having problems disconnecting the flexible brake line from the hard line, but after some time I was able to get the brass fitting...

Hydraulic brake lines on 2005 Sport Trac

mountaineer2004 Yes that's why while I was replacing pads and rotors that I decided to replace the flexible brake lines (they looked rusty). So now I'm into replacing the hard lines back to the ABS unit.

Hydraulic brake lines on 2005 Sport Trac

No I meant I was nervous that I might have had to lift it out. So I'll be busy crawling under today looking around while its supported by 6x6 s.

Hydraulic brake lines on 2005 Sport Trac

410Fortune thanks for responding. Not being a good mechanic I was hoping that I would not need to do something like lifting the engine out. Yes I have been spraying with PB blaster, and rubbing them as best as possible with a small wire brush. Thanks again.
