Hello. I'm not sure how accurate it is but I use the torque app on my phone to monitor my transmission temps in my Ranger. You just need an obdII bluetooth connector to hook it up. Just in case you wanted a different option.
I've been continuing to do research on this and so far it looks like it would be compatible so far as I can tell. I found this picture in a different thread that shows the sensors and locations.

Bump. Anyone have any insight on this? I was also able to locate this thread which seems to support my thoughts that I could possibly use a newer 5r55e.

I just want to be sure all of the sensors will hook up and be compatible...
Hey Guys!
I'm hoping someone here may be able to answer my questions. First about my truck I have a 97 ranger 4.0L 4x4 automatic extended cab. I've been having some problems with the transmission. I've read the 5r55e valve body rebuild diary and I ordered a new valve body from central...
Thanks for the advice Jk080. I'm sure there will be other items that will need to be replaced as well, I'm just trying to do a little research and get some suggestions before I tear it down so I'll have an idea of what to order.
The whole stage 4 thing I think just references whats included with the kit. For instance they sell the same kit as stage 1 except you don't get any of the bands or bushings. The clutch material is the same in every kit. When you say pioneer kit are you referring to brand? I found a pioneer...
Hello all!
I've been doing alot of work to my transmission lately. I have a 97 ranger 4.0l 4x4. The transmission is a 5r55e. In the past I installed a rebuilt valve body from central valve bodies, but now I'm having some issues that I think may require the entire transmission to be rebuilt...
The low pressure switch went bad on mine. Its located on the dryer near the low pressure port. To test it you can disconnect the switch and jump the wires in the connector. It the compressor cycles on you need to replace the switch. If not the problem is elsewhere.
*edit* reread the post...
Sorry to revive this thread, but I just wanted to share my experience here. First off I wanted to thank kaiser for the write up, it has helped me tremendously. I have a 97 ranger 4.0 4x4. Using the part numbers provided in the thread earlier I picked up the gaskets for my truck as well as a...
According to my owners manual I have the 5r55e transmission. I don't know the condition of the valve body, I'm just making an educated guess that it is the root of my problems. I'm pretty sure the valve body is all original and hasn't had any of the updates done to it. The pan didn't look as if...
Hi my names Jonathan and I'm new to the forum. I recently acquired a '97 4.0l ranger xlt 4x4 extended cab with about 106k miles. I've been lurking on the forums for a few weeks browsing all of the information available. I've been having some issues with my transmission and think I need to...
