Well guys, the old Ex has finally been retired and will be my toy/ work truck for stuff around the house. Let the serious mods begins!
I just bought a 2011 Bmw 335D. Twin turbo diesel. 425lbs of torque stock and gets 36mpg on the highway. With a tuner, it will go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.
I don't know about you guys but I'm always running late. As long as I have oil pressure, I drop it in gear and go. I'm not saying this is a good idea, but with the 10 cars I have owned, I have always done this and have not had any issues. It also does not get very cold in Georgia so if I lived...
Keep use updated. I have very limited knowledge on the internals of transmissions but in my experience, it sounds electrical. I had a Jeep Cherokee with the same issue. It would not shift out of 1st unless I manually shifted it. It had a bad transmission control unit.
It might be worth your...
Your seats came out awesome! I have seen other people who have restored their seats with dye as well as even dying a different color. If prepped correctly, they will hold up for many years!!
I uploaded your photos so members will not have to click on them. Just click quote my my post and...
With an aftermarket radio, if you have steering wheel controls, you will lose those along with the rear radio control. I know they make adapters so the steering wheel controls will still work but I am not sure about the rear radio control.
I went to the junk yard and bought a head unit from a...
I have not gotten the speedometer adjusted yet. My new tires are 265/75/16 and measure just under 32" tall. At 80mph, the speedometer reads about 72 or 73mph. I have been using my gps for accurate speed but I do need to get it adjusted to allow for proper shift points and mileage.
How much...
I like the the heated seats so far. I just hope they last!
I'm glad the Alpine stereo out of the Lincoln worked out well. Its a cheap alternative and retains all the stock functions which is great!
Were you having these symptoms prior to the rebuild? The transmission issues sound like either a wiring issue or an faulty transmission computer.
Are you getting any check engine codes? It sounds like the IAC is bad or dirty if it is not new. I would take that apart and clean it really well...
What are the options for the 4wd switch. For example, does it say "4x4 auto," "4x4 part time," "4x4 full time."? I'm trying to determent whether it is the awd model.
Too bad you're not closer! I have a 98 5.0 2wd. I wish it was all wheel drive. One day when it is not my daily driver, I plan to convert it to 4wd and make it my toy.
Thank you for the heads up. I have experienced this unfortunately. Hopefully they are better than my stock ones. Mine are turning yellow and its not just the haze that builds up on the out side. I can hardly see since they are getting opaque.
That sounds tricky. Although it can be done, ask me how I know, like Turdle stated, I would try to find one from a 1998 2wd 5.0 so there are no more snags.
Correct me if I'm wrong, you could also get a transfercase out of a F-150 and just run it in 2wd. You would not have to get the front axle or front drive shaft. You would have to shorten your existing drive shaft though. This is just an option but will add weight.
Thanks! I ended up ordering this heated seat kit. I figured for the price, It is a better option than finding some at the junk yard. They should be here on Saturday. I will document the installation process.
I'm not sure how you feel about cutting into your bumper but if you did an exhaust set up like this Dodge Ram, it could look pretty cool and look more stock.
Here is one I did quickly. I also took out the stock exhaust tip.
If you can take some pictures of the rear of your Explorer at the exact same angle as the pictures of the SRT8, I will be able to match the tip angle better. Good lighting will help too.
Here is the 2002 Mercury Cougar Fan Set up. It is very hard to get a good picture since it is tucked in there. I don't like how I mounted it on top. I think I am going to get some flat metal and secure it to the alternate locations on the side so it looks much cleaner.
The bottom of the fan...
