    1995 Explorer XL personal thread

I have decided to sell my 1995 Explorer. Bills to pay, and ultimately I need a bigger vehicle. Any guidance is welcome as to where to post this and price guidance. Thanks Harry

Working on it on and off. Using a clamp meter to measure current. When i open the rear hatch of course it triggers the light so it jumps to ~ 600 ma. Closing it ~ 250 ma for a while. Slowly goes down to 150 ma Then eventually settles in at ~ 50 ma I have mostly been charging the battery from...

Thanks - agree that at 12.3 volts it is getting on the low side but you are right - connections somewhere might not be perfect. The battery terminals are recently cleaned but the wire is kind of thin so maybe that is a factor to look at as well as tracing some things out. Confirmed that there...

    1995 Explorer XL personal thread

This past week or so I have been having some engine start problems. The starter behaved like the starter battery was low ( measured it and around 12.3 volts ) which seems a little low but not terrible. Anyway it has been very hot so I wondered if that was a factor. Have been charging it up...

    1999 Ford Explorer Alternator Replacement

Thanks for the video - nice fast. Are you thinking about upgrading the 12 volt power wires as well to accommodate the higher current from the alternator?

    1995 Explorer Summer Project

Nice to see another 95 explorer project in motion. I don't have the expertise that the others on the forum have, but my thread is here in case you are bored: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/1995-explorer-xl-personal-thread.495974/page-8 My single biggest problem so far was the...

So for now, it isn't my highest priority. I am hoping to not spend a lot of time under the hood. The cylinders on the lift seem strong enough, but the side torque split off the end connection that ties to the hood nub or whatever it is called. Will take a picture sometime but I was surprised...

If not I can rig that up. The cig lighters usually can only support 10 amp continuous, 15 amps for short periods. A lot of people melt down their cig lighters by trying to put USB chargers inside of them.

Thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions. The battery held a charge for a few days now, so hopefully the light under the hood was the problem. Did some misc clean up today. Cleaned the battery terminals and added a small amount of distilled water to a few of the cells. Trimmed out...

Thanks - for 90+ % of the population, those make perfect sense. The hood locking up on me (now for the 2nd time) makes me think about options on how to deal with a low starter battery even if I can't open the hood. I already have 1 solar panel on this Explorer feeding a power system, so for me...

Wife to the rescue.... The great thing about these forums is that usually the solution can be found with a little bit of digging. My wife put her full weight onto the passenger side / front of the hood. I was able to put my fingers under the drivers side and sort of force the secondary latch...

I am thinking about attempting to send some power to the starter battery from the cab at a trickle type charge rate. Kicking around some ideas: - The 12 volt cig lighter - usually those can handle 5 - 10 amp max continuous - Perhaps via the fuse box on the far left side of the drivers side dash...

The test drives went fine. Tried to start it yesterday and no power, so must have either left a light on or similar. Went to the shop and picked up my 75 amp @ 12 volt continuous IOTA charger. That thing will revive most battery situations. Opening the hood has been problematic but I thought...

    410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"

I have the same general problem getting photos off of a cell phone. I finally just gave up and bought a Panasonic G9. It is super simple and fast to transfer photos off of it via USB to a computer. I use linux and my wife uses windows. Both work just fine. My son is a perfectionist so he...

It is actually very easy to do - I just was making it difficult. In Jan and Feb the spine Dr did some injections so this helped to ease the pain / helped with mental clarity on this project. Frankly - it was not motivating to work in the rain on a sloped driveway either, but my wife got tired...

FYI - did some clean up of the storage unit: - Explorer 60 / side rear seat is now gone - With it, 2 seats from the old van (the one that had been totaled ) - Center console from the Explorer - Misc other stuff filling up a pick up truck to the dump

Left photo - mostly assembled. Steel cover plate back in place. Somehow lost a screw so need to find one. Decided to drive it this way for a while to make sure that it all works. I am tempted to install an on / off switch under the dash to lock out the starter as a theft prevention, but...

Photo on the left - main start wire crimped with a panduit non insulated butt connector. That will definitely not come apart. Photo (middle ) - 3 M heat shrink with the hot melt glue inside, plus some labels. My heat gun was at the shop so I had to use a lighter to shrink it. That 3M shrink...

A few photos of the process of removing the alarm in case it is helpful to others in the future. There are no big insights here for anyone that knows what they are doing but perhaps a good reminder for me in the future. The first photo has the plastic dash cover and metal plate under the...

Quick update: - Pulled the wire bundle apart - Traced and marked all of the associated wires - The actual alarm pin out does not match the manual, but fortunately the correct pin out is molded into the plastic case - Cut out / removed the bulk of the wires and alarm - Connected up the two wires...

It finally stopped raining for a few days (and my back was finally working well enough ) to spend some time today on the Explorer. I didn't have any prior experience with alarms, but reading in more detail and watching some YT videos, it became clear that the alarm has an interrupt for the...

I found the owners manual. It has an Avital 2100 alarm. Trying to remove it so that I can drive. Going through the alarm manual and it is fairly sophisticated. It appears to have a "starter kill" function and I think that this is what I am having problems with. (and the alarm going off of...

Thanks for the part suggestion. At the moment just trying to find where it attaches to the motor. The reason I asked about the insulation aspect is that I have some very good wire here that I could make a get me by connection - could strip if necessary. Looking from the top today with the sun...

Somewhere in my garage I have a box of these braided cables made by Vemstrap. They are rated for > 200 amps in terms of wire cross section / width plus of course very high wire count as they were purchased for a special high vibration RF grounding project. Unfortunately likely too short but...

Not completely sure if I am on the right path or not. Digging around today in between rain storm periods - found that this braided strap is only connected on one end. Originally I wondered if someone had cut it, but looking more closely it has slipped out of the crimped on terminal. I am...
