    Going Electric?

This is a really well written and coherent argument you've put together. I really like the lack of punctuation too, adds some mystery and intrigue to the whole thing.

    Anyone got an external console???

You can swap in a Sync 3 screen and APIM into your 2016 to get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You have to find a 2017-2019 screen and APIM out of an Explorer with similar specs to yours, or even some other models work as well. I think I got my screen and APIM together on cart-part.com for about...

How to add backup camera and bigger screen

I replaced my '16 Platinum Sync 2 with a Sync 3 system from a more recent vehicle. Cost about $300 for the screen and APM (I think that's the name, it's the brains of the operation) from an online junk yard parts place, plus like $50 for the programming from here Sync Programming. I know you can...

'16 Platinum - Front brake springs that push pad off rotor

I ordered Wagner OEX1611B pads for the front. When I went to replace them, I noticed they don't have the same spring clip that the factory pads do that push the pad off the rotor. Attached is a picture of what the spring clip I'm talking about looks like - this is what the Duralast Gold pads...

Whining noise coming from rear passenger side

I've had this issue pop up recently.... and it's my subwoofer. First time I thought it was the rear end whining, but the next it happened the sub just went nuts and was making crazy noises. It does this every other week or so.... it's either a whining noise that increases with the amount of...

Changing Sway Bar Bushings / End Links

I wanted to share my experiences with this project. I followed this guide over the weekend to help me replace my sway bar bushings and end links. I was fearful my 2005 with 210k miles was going to have seized bolts, but everything came lose without too much effort with a standard 3/8" socket...

Heat only blows while moving or once car is 100% warm

I figured it out.... I was low on coolant. So similar to what I'd get if the water pump wasn't working, there wasn't enough fluid to circulate at low rpm. Topped off the reservoir and it's working fine. Now to figure out where the leak is......

Heat only blows while moving or once car is 100% warm

New issue now that it's cold..... heat is only blowing while I'm moving. Once the car is 100% warm it works fine. If I come to a stop light, the air will slowly shift from nice warm air, to blowing cold air over about 20 seconds. once I start moving again the air slowly goes back to being nice...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

You don't just connect straight to a receiver via USB... you can either use the N7 headphone jack and plug into an input on the receiver, or go the USB-DAC route and plug the DAC into an input on the receiver. Using the USB-DAC requires the use of an OTG cable, which allows for simultaneous...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

There isn't a enough room to put a single DIN below the AC controls - you only get a few inches of depth. I'm going to use a detachable faceplate single DIN installed in the factory slot, but mount the faceplate in area below the AC controls. The pogo pins don't provide USB support, just...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

I found this guys N7 guide today. Some interesting things here - beyond my skills or desire level. Looks like if the N7 does power down, it won't automatically boot like I thought. But there is a command you can run that will enable it to do so...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

Dude, that sucks. I'm pulling out my dash toady to try to figure out how I'm going to do this, if i come up with any ideas I'll let you know. Also saw this yesterday.... i like the concept, might be a good idea for mounting. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2459432

    Nexus 7 head unit!

For both of my tablets, if they completely die, they boot up when plugged into a charger. So your idea may work out. Still though, you know at some point the thing is going to need a power button press, and man is it going to be annoying.

    Nexus 7 head unit!

Also found this on the remote mount of the faceplate... guy even has an explorer. Looks like this is totally doable with a little solder and CAT 5 cable. I think I'll mount mine just under the AC controls...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

@ajthomas05 - You've inspired me, ordering my Nexus 7 today! Thought of something else... how do you plan to access the power button? You'll want the screen to be able to turn off when your car is parked, so then how will you get it to turn back on? I've done a little research, and it looks...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

Damn, we are really on the same page on this thing! One more thing I found a few weeks ago that I've thought I might do... I found a guy who was using a USB hub with keyboard, mouse, and external drive on a N7... I believe it was supported natively without any kind of hacking. Not worried about...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

Have you tried TuneIn Radio? I use it all the time for all of my local stations, even able to get my local AM sports radio stations. It also records, pauses, and rewinds. Perhaps I'm getting crazy here, but what if a detachable face single DIN receiver was used, but a connector extension from...

    Nexus 7 head unit!

Also, I'd agree that front looks better.... though I'd be curious how it looks from passenger/driver angle view. Any plans to try to trim that lower plastic piece down at all to get a better fit?

    Nexus 7 head unit!

This is awesome! I've been thinking about this since the day it came out! I've got a Nook Color rooted running CM10 and thought about using it, but it's a little larger, and way crappier than the N7. I've got a 2005 Explorer with climate control, but it looks like otherwise the dashes are the...

Stalling after starting, just installed new alternator

I finally got around to cleaning the MAF sensor. I disconnected the battery, removed the sensor, and cleaned it with MAF cleaner (CRC from Autozone, $7.49). Reinstalled and reconnected the battery. It appears to have fixed my issues. I ran a few errands yesterday and it was starting better...

Stalling after starting, just installed new alternator

I unplugged the battery, waited ~60 seconds, plugged it back in. Drove ~75 miles with multiple stops along the way, and it may be a little better, but still not perfect. I'll give cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body a shot... can't hurt. Sedition - I'm not sure what the regulator or B+...

Stalling after starting, just installed new alternator

I just put a new alternator on my 2005 Explorer, it was a remanufacturered one from Autozone. Now when I start the car, it wants to stall right after cranking. It cranks fine – there is no lack of power and it cranks up just as smoothly as ever. But as soon as the starter disengages, the RPM...
