    1999 explorer thermostat housing trouble

When I put mine in I used some Teflon tape to get it tighten up. It has been in for about three years and I have not had an issue with it yet.

Blank and Black/white wire power seat question

Well I think I got it figured out. The black wire is for ground and the black with white trace is for power. Turns out the motors have a heavy draw and that is the reason for the heavier gauge wire and separate ground.

Blank and Black/white wire power seat question

I wanted to replace the seats in my 97 Ford Ex and my friend gave me some seats he had. The seats turned out to be out of Ford Escort SOHC and not an Ex. There are two wires a black and a black with a white trace and my question is what does each of the wires do? I am assuming that the ground is...

Keyless entry number pad overlay or sticker???

Mine became brittle and broke apart. Instead of putting on the same type I got one from a third gen. The third gen has push buttons instead of a pad with this setup I no longer need to worry about it breaking up again. The third gen plug is the same so you do not need to cut any wires at all

    2013 sun visor question

Well I took the plunge and just manhandled the fabric out of the way. Figured if I ruined it I would just buy a new one. I did like you said and just pushed it out of the way as far as possible and cut out the plastic. Like you said it was not fun but I got done. The fun part was all the...

    2013 sun visor question

Well I have never been accused of being the brightest bulb in the pack. LOL But in this case I have the visor sitting on the counter in the house. In all the how-to's the seam for the visor fabric is on the opposite side of the one I have. So I can't get the fabric peeled back far enough to...

    2013 sun visor question

Ok, I got the visor out and have the Homelink module ready. In taking the visor apart to add the Homelink module I can't figure out how to remove the visor retainer. That the one that locks into the clip on the headliner. Any ideas on how it is held in place?

    2013 sun visor question

thanks Jason that's the information I was looking for. Now all I have to do is take it all apart and put the Homelink in. Was the visor glued together or is held together by plastic clips? Also thanks Everyone else for the other links to buy one with it already installed. I may need those if...

    2013 sun visor question

My wife just bought a 2013 Explorer XLT to replace her Taurus Limited I totaled out when I hit a deer. One of the things I liked about it was that the sun visor had homelink. I want to replace the current sun visor with one that has it. The only ones I have found say for use with Explorer's that...

Engine won't crank need ideas what to look at

Well I said I would post the solution but it is not the way I would have done it. My buddy decided to just put in push switch to start it instead of finding the issue.

Engine won't crank need ideas what to look at

The starter solenoid is on the starter. Right now I have a wire from the solenoid terminal to the battery and put a jumper in so the clutch safety switch is bypassed. This way he touches the wire to the battery and he can start it without having to push start it. We have checked all the fuzes...

Problems after replacing the left timing chain tension

I just replaced mine not to long ago and no I did not see a way you could it wrong. Are you sure you fully seated the chain tensioner for that side? Did you pull the tensioner pin for the jack shaft chain tensioner?

    Now my turn, coolant leak

Ditto on the lower thermostat housing leaking. Just to be sure get a bright flashlight and check where the passenger side head and intake mate up. There are a couple of spots where coolant will pool if the housing is leaking. It is a PITA to replace but do able.

Engine won't crank need ideas what to look at

I got a ex with a standard trans. For some reason the starter will not crank. If I jump the solenoid the starter will work just fine. So far I have checked the following: - Battery is charged and is good - Neutral safety switch is working properly (We even bypassed it, no change0 - Ignition...

    Neutral Safety switch question

My buddies 2001 Ranger with a five speed automatic would not start in part. We put it in Neutral and it started just fine. After a bit more trouble shooting we determined that the neutral safety switch needed to be replaced. So we replaced the switch and it now starts fine in park. However, it...

    97 Explorer Radio size?

I used a rotary file to enlarge my radio bezel. The key is to be patient and do a lot trial fits to make it look right and not have large gaps around the radio.

    Chasing a gremlin

Here is a bit of a long shot. I had the same issue, one time, and it turned out the transmission neutral switch was not quite engaged. All the lights worked and I would hear the solenoid clicking. Next time it happens try pulling up on the gear shift and see if it starts.

Idle air control and a bunch of O2 errors

Idle air control and a bunch of O2 errors

I recently had to do some head work on my Ex. Got that all done and put it back to together and got it running. After it ran a bit the check engine light came on. When I had the codes read I had a "Idle air control over speed error" and a bunch of O2 errors for both banks. I looked everything...

    timing question 4.0 SOHC

Well I went ahead and had the head worked on and put it all back together. The Ex is running good now and hopefully better once the computer makes its adjustments. Thanks to everyone who helped me get it back on the road.

    timing question 4.0 SOHC

Well I pulled the head off and all three pistons showed signs of the valves hitting them. But the middle one hit hard enough that it bent the valve. Funny thing was only the intake valves hit the exhaust valves showed no signs of hitting the piston. So now the question is should I] a) Do a...

    timing question 4.0 SOHC

Thanks for the explanation and would explain why it ran down the highway fine but did not idle worth a crap. I did a compression check today and found that the middle cylinder had no compression. The other two cylinders had a compression of 115 psi average. So the cam being off is mute now as...

    timing question 4.0 SOHC

Well finally got the valve covers pulled off to make sure everything was right. I put the crank at TDC and checked the passenger (right side) cam and that matches what is shown in the picture. On the driver (left side) cam it is off just a hare, about 3 degrees. My question is will this small...
