Rear axle specification? Remanufactured axle leaking!

I am using remanufactured axles. That's really the reason for my post. I worry the remanufactured axles are machined beyond tolerance, causing the leak. The goal with my original question is to try an determine the specification of an OEM axle, so I can compare to the one I installed.

Rear axle specification? Remanufactured axle leaking!

No, I am not using the redesigned seals. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of this until after I rebuilt the differential and put everything back together. In any case, I can't imagine the redesign is related to my issue. The seal has been replaced twice, once by a competent transmission shop. I...

Rear end scraping noise when coasting

When diagnosing my differential noise, I removed the rear emergency drum pads (since they were worn, and emergency cable was broken anyway). That ruled out the possibility it was the brakes. I also replaced what I though was a bad wheel bearing, and the noise persisted. In the end I gambled...

Rear end scraping noise when coasting

Rear axle specification? Remanufactured axle leaking!

Does anyone know what the OEM specification is for the surface of the right rear CV axle that rotates against the seal? At the parts store, I was measuring ~46 mm (+/- 0.5mm) for the mating surface on two different "remanufactured" axles. Rebuilt my differential, which included all new...

Are rear Left & Right axle shafts different lengths?

Which leads me to believe that I accidentally swapped left for right, causing the left side to get the longer axle, and damaging it during initial test drive. Probably enough slack in the inner CV joint on other side to work just fine without issue.

Are rear Left & Right axle shafts different lengths?

2002 Explorer XLS w/ 4WD (Independent Rear Suspension) Are the rear left and right axles different lengths? Various websites show that left/right axles have different part numbers. Initial assessment is that "yes" they vary in length by approx 1 inch. Short story is that I rebuilt my...
