Clutch out of commission...can't shift into any gear

Well, I don't think it's anything mechanical yet. There seems to be something wrong with the hydraulic system. I noticed that my master cylinder reservoir is leaking. Every time I depress the clutch, it shoots fluid up through the pin-size hole in the top of the cap. I tried covering the hole...

Clutch out of commission...can't shift into any gear

Well, we don't have the necessary tools or work place to drop the transfer case and transmission...how much do you estimate it would be to have a shop do it?

Clutch out of commission...can't shift into any gear

Hey everyone, Well, I drove my Ex home from school today, and I got home just fine. Sometime between then and now my clutch decided to quit working. I drove it around a little bit after I discovered this problem, trying to diagnose what was wrong. At first, it took a lot of effort to shift...

    power window motor removal?

Well, at least you didn't have to spend $50 for a new motor, like I did...heh

    power window motor removal?

No...you do not, I repeat...DO NOT!!!!!!!! need to drill out the rivets if all you are doing is replacing the motor. I just completed this project on my '93 Sport. You have to drill out one of the dimples in the door (it's covered up by the lower left part of the speaker mount, so you'll be...

Gonna buy some manuals, what years are the same?

The Haynes and Chilton manuals should contain the information for 1991 through 1994-95. I believe that Ford slightly changed the colors for the wiring in their 1992 and later models. You may want to shoot for 1993 specifically or get one that covers all years of first gen Explorers.

    Titan09's Ex facelift - Phase 1, Part 1

Ok, I've been slowly working on doing some small things to add to the visual appeal of my Ex, and I finally have the first part done! The first and foremost thing that I did, after replacing my stock black grille (which was cracked) with the "chrome" grille off of an XLT, I decided to keep the...

    Side Trim removal

Simple enough. Thanks :) What I'm trying to do is a small "touch up" project. I replaced the stock black grille that goes with the Sport with the "chrome" grille found on other Explorers. Mine was sort of screwed up when I got it, so I decided to replace the grille and the headlight/corner...

    Side Trim removal

Okay, first things first - I didn't know whether to put this in the Body Work & Detailing forum, as that's a more general forum for such and I have a first gen Ex, so I thought I'd post it in here instead, since it is more likely that someone knows the answer to this. My question is fairly...

    Exhaust question

Hey Josh, do you know about how much he'd charge? I'm planning on moving from Hinesville to Augusta in about 4 months. I might want to get that done then :)

Great, now I'm afraid too...Thanks for that :D

This forum scares me to death

Better to get your help here, amongst people who know Explorers inside and out, and have probably had the same dilemma, then to try and handle it on your own, or worse... pay a mechanic to do it for you...

This forum scares me to death

One thing to keep in mind with the Explorer forum too - I'm willing to bet that most of us have a lot of pride in our Ex's - and each of our rigs has its own story. Like any other vehicle ever made, some Explorers have more problems than others. That's always going to happen - just the life of...

    Titan09's '93 Explorer Sport

[Eventual] plans for my Ex: -Replace valve cover gasket -Replace rear differential gasket -Replace rubber transmission plugs with metal ones -Replace automatic hubs with Warn Manual hubs -Replace spark plugs -Clean, and possibly rebuild electronic shift motor -Replace driver's door hinge That...

    Titan09's '93 Explorer Sport

Well, not many changes yet...but here are a couple things: -Replaced both front brake calipers, installed new brake pads, and new brake lines -Replaced the fuel pump (the sending unit was bad, and the fuel gauge wasn't reading) -I plan on getting new hubs soon, and rebuilding the electronic...

    4x4 issue from retard

Detaching it from the transfer case isn't hard...It's just a few bolts. Disassembling it, however, is a different story, as you have to worry about making sure that everything's in the right place and aligned correctly when you do clean it and put it back together. If you know someone who's...

    4x4 issue from retard

This is what I was saying at first, but now it just seems that you aren't pressing the button after you lock or unlock your hubs, and you do have to do that. The panel I'm talking about is on the left side of the cargo area. It's the door held in with two latches. Behind the door is your...

    4x4 issue from retard

Unlocking the hubs won't automatically disengage the transfer case. If you had auto hubs, pushing the button again would unlock the hubs and disengage the transfer case. There are wires going to the hubs that lock them, but the manual hubs obviously lack these. After you unlock the hubs, just...

    4x4 issue from retard

Something I just figured out from looking at mine (and I obviously overlooked it before) was that there's a speed sensor that determines when the transfer case sends power to the front driveline. Now, if you lock in your hubs, but DON'T engage the 4x4, when the front wheels spin (as a result...

    4x4 issue from retard

I'd just give him a few light slams...that ought to teach him a lesson :P The hubs aren't the only thing that differentiates 2WD from 4WD. By this I mean that the hubs don't mean much if your front drive line isn't getting any power. The way it works is that there is a connection from the...

    4x4 issue from retard

Okay, I'll try and help if I can :) If the light is on, it's definitely not the switch, and it's probably not an issue with the computer. It might be the electronic shift motor that's connected to the transfer case. When you lock in your manual hubs and press the button, illuminating the light...

    01 X sport died at 50mph

What's the difference between them? I know there's a slight difference on the 4-door models, but I thought that all Sports were the same, save the fact that they were either 2WD or 4WD.

    01 X sport died at 50mph

Hmm, I was obviously mistaken then. My apologies :) There just must not be very many out there. But then again, the majority of people prefer automatics to driving a stick. I don't really mind, I can drive a stick just as well as an auto. They can do a little better on gas too, because you...

    01 X sport died at 50mph

Hmm...that's interesting. Ford must have produced a few of those to satisfy the small percentage of its customers that shun automatics..

Oh, Mrriverajr, you might have some luck if you post your X up over in this forum.
