    M5OD crazy rattling noise

If the car is in motion, it will rattle no matter what unless it's in 4th. Neutral or any other gear engaged, clutch in or out, doesn't make a difference. I think I've gotten this down, and it's that I'm screwed on this. Taking it to a repair shop tomorrow to see what the $ damage is. I...

    M5OD crazy rattling noise

That was what one guy said just by hearing it, but the real tell is how it completely stops when you just throw it in gear. Nothing in the engine or exhaust changes, but it COMPLETELY stops the noise and purrs quietly.

    M5OD crazy rattling noise

Video w/ the noise here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLSaX7fmghA At least, I THINK it's coming from the transmission. I've had a long and storied history with this car and transmissions... Got it off Craigslist, after ~1000 miles the transmission blew on the freeway. I had 4th gear but...

M5OD-R1 swap, new top cover missing neutral safety switch

Pulled the codes in the parking lot, got home and looked 'em up just now. 539 and 176. Unrelated to the transmission. (Lean mix. Probably because the car has been sitting with that gas for about 9 months.) I'll probably leave it alone for now unless a new code comes up. Thanks for the...

M5OD-R1 swap, new top cover missing neutral safety switch

I swapped my destroyed original M5OD-R1 transmission (1993 Explorer XLT 4WD) for the same from a 1996 Explorer. Everything initially looked identical... Except the top covers are different. The new '96 top cover is lacking a sensor, which research is telling me is the neutral safety switch...

    Transmission failure - M5OD - Only 4th gear

Well, update. Found a good condition replacement from a 1996 4WD ($200). Tranny oil (atf) was burnt as hell, smelled terrible, and only about 2-3 cups came out. Removed it, got the top cover off, and much to my surprise first gear was GONE all the way to the shaft. Heat melted the...

    Transmission failure - M5OD - Only 4th gear

1993 Explorer 4x4 XLT w/ M5OD manual transmission Driving down the highway and suddenly 5th gear drops out like it's in neutral. Switch to 4th and it drives. Further testing shows Reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gears are all not engaging. The shifter moves, it feels like it "engages" with...
