    Passenger door window replacement probs

I actually searched this time but couldn't find anything. I need to replace the 3/4 window on the rear driver's side passenger door (2002 Explorer XLS) and am stumped. I have the panel off and have begun to remove the window trim but I can't figure out how to remove it all the way. There's a...

    2002 XLS brake question

OK, yet another problem solved. Definitely swapping out the hub was the way to go. There's no way I would have ever attempted to replace the bearings and I'm not convinced that it's possible. It's certainly not worth the hassle compared to swapping out the hub. Thanks again to all

    2002 XLS brake question

Thanks, Sweersa. It seems as though we were posting at about the same time and you confirmed what I thought. The assembly here in Costa Rica runs about $200 and I don't know if I feel comfortable waiting if I order it from Amazon.

    2002 XLS brake question

Thanks. If I swap out the hub, the new assembly comes with the bearing, correct? The actual job of swapping out the entire assembly seems easier than swapping out just the bearing.

    2002 XLS brake question

I also see references, when looking up how to change the hub, to removing a nut in the center. I swear I don't remember seeing a nut when I looked at the hub yesterday. Is it possible that I simply lost the nut, or am I nuts?

    2002 XLS brake question

is it possible that just the bearing needs to be changed?

Is this what you suggest? http://www.amazon.com/GMB-725-0235-Wheel-Bearing-Assembly/dp/B0041MEBYO#immersive-view_1446305677809

    2002 XLS brake question

Thanks for the info. In what ways does the hub fail? In other words, what should I be looking for to fix it?

    2002 XLS brake question

I know I should know this already but should the front brake pads be pressing against the disc when the car is parked and the parking brake is engaged? Also, I feel that I could remove the hub just be pulling it if I removed the brake. Normal or no? 2 days ago the ABS light lit up and...

    Upper ball joint assembly

I appreciate your advice. Getting the entire control arm with ball joint here in Costa Rica would have cost over $300 at the only Ford dealership. No onr else has it and I don't have the luxury of waiting to bring one in from the US right now, which would have resulted in about a 2 week wait...

    Upper ball joint assembly

I thought you were referring to the ring at the location of the ball. No, there's nothing where it goes through the arm. It's not like the ball joint easily sat into the controller arm - it took a lot of effort with the hammer. The previous ball joint didn't have a retaining ring, either.

    Upper ball joint assembly

The new ball joint has a circlip on it. I'm going to see if I can take a picture of it. When I say tap it in, I don't mean that it took 5 taps and it was in. It took a while and was slow going. I use the word tap so someone doesn't attempt the same and whack at it with brute force, damaging...

    Upper ball joint assembly

Just to close this out, I swapped the ball joint yesterday with no issue. The part was by Moog, ran $30.00 (remember, I'm in Costa Rica) and cannot be greased. Removing the old joint was a snap with a ball peen hammer. The new one was inserted and secured to the knuckle with the screw. Using...

    Upper ball joint assembly

I can't explain it except for pure luck. I found a replacement part in-country. Hopefully it fits well and the controller arm and knuckle aren't hosed

    Upper ball joint assembly

I don't believe the knuckle was damaged. Perhaps a little rubbing but nothing that would make it inoperable. At least I hope not.

    Upper ball joint assembly

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lnjtxzdfw7uqu5w/20151014_154607.jpg?dl=0 That's how it looked when I pulled the wheel.

    Upper ball joint assembly

I can only say that it popped out because the car began pulling to the right. I pulled the wheel and the entire knuckle assembly was hanging free from the controller arm. I got lucky that it happened as I was pulling into the driveway.

    Upper ball joint assembly

Before I purchase the ball joint, I need to make sure that it's going to solve the problem. Is it possible that the control arm is what failed and not the ball joint? Is it possible to reinstall the current ball joint into the control arm until the new one arrives, or can I assume that once...

    Upper ball joint assembly

I guess a certain parts warehouse website is forbidden herr. I found a Mevotech MEMK80008 Ball Joint - Non-greasable, Direct Fit ball joint. Does anyone recommend it?

    Upper ball joint assembly

Thanks for the quick reply. I would imagine that the ball has to have a tremendous amount of pressure applied to it for it to seat properly in the joint. Is there a trick to this or is it something I might be able to do myself?

    Upper ball joint assembly

Forgive me for not searching first but I'm sweaty and dirty. 2002 Explorer XLS. The passenger side upper ball joint popped out today from the assembly. Is it possible to replace just the ball joint or do you have to replace the entire assembly? I'm in Costa Rica and getting parts isn't quick...

    Replacing Power Mirror

My 2002 explorer XLS decided to pick a fight with a pedestrian. Although it lost a mirror, I feel it won the battle. I purchased this mirror and need some assistance with the wiring to install it. The mirror comes with 5 wires connected to the harness. On the top row of 4 pins, left to...

Need a little input from the pros

Checked the battery today and several of the cells seemed to be much lower than they were yesterday. I ran the car for about 15 minutes yesterday and can't find any indication that there is a problem with the alternator using my multimeter. I get a charge when probing the battery with the car...

    Installing horn

Replacing the horn in my 91 Explorer and the one I bought (the only type I could find) has two prongs while the horn that's installed only has 1. There are no markings on the horn to identify one as pos and the other as neg, if there is such a thing, and I'm not sure how to install it. Any...
