    A better engine for a 2003?

I already have the tallest gears at 3.73 and a manual 5 speed, so as written earlier, That's about as good as it's going to get. If I put taller tires on it, I'll have to run it in low range just to go up a hill.

    A better engine for a 2003?

One last thing. Part of my question comes from another observation. Last fall the family rented a 2015 Dodge van, loaded four adults, one child and all the gear that goes with a 7 month old. We got an amazing 28.5mpg on a 1,000 mile road trip from Olympia to Boise Idaho and back. That's the...

    A better engine for a 2003?

I bought this little guy with 80,000 miles on it from a gentleman who did not know it had a low range. It's been a city truck. I went through it and did a full tune up, wheel bearings and swapped out the muffler. It had a very good stainless duel exhaust system, but with a super loud muffler...

    A better engine for a 2003?

My axle code is 46. I sort of figured I'm stuck with it. Burns me a bit since my brother-in-law's F150 4-door is getting close to 22mpg! I was hoping for a "Engine x makes for a good swap" sort of answer but sometimes those just don't exist. Thanks, Goshawk

    A better engine for a 2003?

Greetings, I’m the somewhat disappointed owner of a new to me 2003 sport trac 5 speed. The truck is in immaculate condition and sized just about right for what I want to do with it. Problem is this 4.0 is very thirsty, to the tune of 19mpg highway; EGAD! Has anyone done an engine swap for a...

    Front end shakes without moving!

Yup. That's it. It was bad enough that I had to put it down on the ground to prevent the whole front end from hammering! I'll be blunt. I've been pulling wrenches on heavy trucks and equipment since the 70's and never encountered this before. Sure put me in my place! Thanks again. Goshawk

    Front end shakes without moving!

Thanks for reading. I've just finished replacing the wheel bearings, breaks, calipers, rotors in the front end of a 2003 EST. Once off the jacks, and running I turned the wheels to the right and the whole front end shakes as if I've got frozen up ball joints. Same to the left. I rolled it out...

    Help Question!!!

Any chance you topped it off with the wrong fluid? If not, then something in either the master cylinder or distributing valve gave loose. You should be able to relive pressure by cracking the lines slightly starting at the master cylinder, then working your way down stream. The first high...

    2003 Sport Trac Part Interchange?

Greetings, I’m shopping for some interior parts and front axle parts for doing a hub conversion on my 2003 sport trac. My biggest trouble so far, is not being able to find anyone who can tell me if one part or another is interchangeable with an Explorer. The local ford dealer punched up some...

How to: How To: AVM Hub Conversion, 2006 Ranger

I've read this thread through twice but still have a couple of questions. First and formost, does anyone know if this conversion would work on a 2003 Sport Trac? I just bought a 2003 and since I have to replace a bearing hub anyways, why not go manual locking? Your thoughts please, Thanks.

    2003 Sport Trac upgrade questions

Greetings, I’m about to get a 2003 Sport Trac with a 5speed manual transmission to replace my very aging 1996 Jeep Cherokee, which replaced my dead 89 Bronco (may she rest in peace) II. I’ll be using said EST for hunting and bad weather driving, not rock crawling just some occasional goat...
