    Lower valance on XLS

I have a 1996 XLS. It has no factory fog lights and has the ugly chrome gille. Is it possible to bolt on the lower valance/air dam (like this one ) that has the opennings for the fog lights? Will it be a "bolt on"? How about adding the factory fog lights as well?

HU for 1996 ford Explorer eddie bauer.

The reson for bypassing the factory amp is that your factory audio system has no amp in the head unit. So when you install an aftermarket CD player they have an amp inside of them. So the CD player will be sending the amp a signal that is amplied and the amp is expected a non powered line...

    1997 XLT Factory Amp??

The speakers cutting out is the fault of the factory amp being over worked. It needs to be bypassed with a simple harness. Your sound quality will be a lot better and you will also get the correct volume range if you bypass it. The factory amp is rated at about 10% THD where your CD player...

What do I have done wrong here for wiring my deck, pic inside

Right. So does the red wire, only when the ignition is turned on. It is the next best thing since the harness for his CD player doesn't have the amp turn on lead.

What do I have done wrong here for wiring my deck, pic inside

His X is an Eddie Bauer so he is probably going to have the premium sound system with the amp. Even my XLS had an amp.

What do I have done wrong here for wiring my deck, pic inside

The amp turn on lead is not hooked up. It is the blue wire with the white stripe. If your CD player harness doesn't have a matching blue /w white wire then hook it to the ignition lead (Red wire i think).

    Amp bypass problem (pics)

Hmm. Stupid Ford has to go and make mine different than all the rest. :thumbdwn: Maybe what I'll do is figure out the pin outs for that little connector and just hard wire the harness into the little connector.

    Amp bypass problem (pics)

Ok. So I got a 96 Explorer XLS with the "Semi-premium" (no sub) sound system. I installed my CD all fine and just have the amp bypass left. So I did all kinds of looking around and reading posts etc and found the amp bypass harness. So I ordered it and this is what it looks like...

    Block Heater or Oil Heater

Up here we put up with -40 degree winters. All you need is a regular block heater and a good battery. Make sure the battery is new, lots of cold cranking amps and put on a battery blanket (warmer).

Does 96 XL AM/FM Cassette have external amp?

I just picked up a 1996 Explorer XL that has the base factory AM/FM/Cassette deck. After checking with the "FAQ" I get the impression that I don't have an external amp and that the amp is in the HU. Is this true that only the JBL/Premium systems had an external amp? I just need to know if i...
