I need help with changing tranny fluid in a 2017 ford explorer.

I'm getting mixed messages about how often to change the fluid. The owners manual says 90k miles. And people on the web say anywhere from every 30k to 80k and various numbers in between. Also some people say to flush. while others say to just drain. My girlfriend got this as government surplus...

2017 Explorer fuel door isn't attached to the fuel door hinge.

Like I said in the description, my girlfriend just bought a 2017 Ford Explorer. The fuel door isn't attached to the fuel door hinge. I can see where the door broke, but I don't see corresponding break marks on the hinge side. For the life of me I can't figure out how these two things go...

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I got a shift motor from a you pull wrecking yard and cut the wires that attached to the transfer case and took it to a mechanic that does work for me that is over my head. He showed me how to remove the wires. He showed how to use a pick to remove the red insert and the tabs that hold the plugs...

Does anyone know how to unhook these wires coming from transfer case motor. Check out pic.

I got one from a you pull wrecking yard and cut the wires that attached to the transfer case and took it to a mechanic that does work for me that is over my head. He showed me how to remove the wires. Mr. Alligator showed a pick and that is what he used. His pick was bent at an angle at the end...

Does anyone know how to unhook these wires coming from transfer case motor. Check out pic.

Here's a picture of the plug. There is no keeper to remove. In 1995 they changed the plug, and added a keeper that can be removed. Mine's a 94 and this is what I have to work with. The picture is a little blurry, but there is no keeper to pull out. I need something to slide around the oddly...

Does anyone know how to unhook these wires coming from transfer case motor. Check out pic.

I called NAPA. The guy there told me I need a Terminal Extractor tool kit to remove the pins. I ordered one from Amazon. It'll be here in a couple days. I'll see then.

Does anyone know how to unhook these wires coming from transfer case motor. Check out pic.

That is what they did in the YouTube video. They were working on a 1995 Explorer. Mine is a 1994. The red center ring can't be removed on mine. I've tried I watched the YouTube video closely and my red ring plug thing is different. I don't know what I'm going to do. I've tied the motor to the...

Does anyone know how to unhook these wires coming from transfer case motor. Check out pic.

I unbolted my transfer case motor. There are wires leaving it going to the transfer case. The only way I can see to possibly unhook them is to take the back of the transfer case off, but I'm not sure that will work. I watched a YouTube video that talked about removing an insert from the plug and...

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I found and started to remove shift motor. I ran into trouble with two wires that go from shift motor to transfer case. I posted picture. I can't figure out how to remove them from transfer case. In the picture they are a little over half way down. One is blue the other is brown. The blue one...

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

Everyone was right. It's not the 4x4 control module. I final figured out how to test it with a lot of help and it passed. Is there anything on here that will tell me where the shift motor is or what it looks like?

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I'm still not sure what I've been looking at on my rig is the 4x4 control module, so I'm posting a picture of it. I can't find any buttons or lights on it and all the plugs have at least 5 wires going into them and it is bolt on to the body. No clips like were described. In fact I can't get at...

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I didn't know you could drive around with your hubs locked for weeks and weeks. I thought you had to unlock them when you came out of 4whd or risk damage. Thanks for the info. I push the button and nothing happens. I guess it's time to attempt to rebuild the shift motor.

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I haven't heard back on if there is a test I can do to find out if it's the shift motor or the automatic hubs that is my problem. I don't want to fix one and find out after it's the other one that's broken.

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I am in Spokane. I'm really poor though. i can't afford to hire help. If I have to replace the hubs, it'll take me a year to save up the money to buy the parts. Is there a way to tell if the shift motor is bad or if it is the hubs. I think those were the two most likely suspects listed.

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

I have looked at the troubleshooting guide. It left me with more questions than answers. like this for example. If you listen carefully you should be able to hear the relays in the 4x4 module when you press the 4x4 button. If you cannot hear the relays recruit a friend to sit near the module...

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

How hard is it to replace the hubs. I consider myself a below average shade tree mechanic. If it's fairly straight forward I can handle it if it gets complicated I usually end up in the weeds. I should also ask about rebuilding the shift motor. Is there any pictures of the control module. I've...

Last winter I noticed my 4wd wasn't working. I waited for warmer weather to fix it. I'm having problems

Last winter I pushed the button to engage my 4wd and nothing happen. My vehicle has shift on the fly 4wd. It's a push button system. No locking hubs or anything like that. I was told last winter the 4x4 control module was bad and it was located in the rear area of the vehicle. I called NAPA...

Oil pressure warning light came on. It's a bad sending unit, but I can't find it. Need help.

Thanks for the reply. I think the post is referring to my type of Explorer, but I'm not real sharp on the terminology. They never get specific about generation 1 or what year vehicle they're discussing. At least if they did I missed it. I won't have time to look until this afternoon, but then...

Oil pressure warning light came on. It's a bad sending unit, but I can't find it. Need help.

I was driving my 1994 Ford Explorer the other day and the oil pressure warning light came on. It has a 4.0 liter v6 engine. I have an oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster and it showed I still had good oil pressure and the engine sounded fine, so I drove home. I left it sit for a few...

4 wheel drive isn't working in my 1994 Ford Explorer. Any ideas as to why?

I appreciate all your help. I'll go to the wrecking yard soon and see if it fixes it. Its around 10 degrees here right now, so I may wait till spring. I've been driving vehicles in the winter without 4 wheel drive my whole life, so it's not that big a deal.

4 wheel drive isn't working in my 1994 Ford Explorer. Any ideas as to why?

Your talking about the cargo area right? We have a you pull wrecking yard here. If I take the mudule out of my explorer, can I still drive it? I'll want to take it with me inside the yard , so once I pull the part I can make sure they are identical.
