99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

Wound up with 0 pressure at the rail, so proceeded with the installation of a new pump and it fired right up. We never got the fuel line loose from the pump, so we had to drop the tank. thank God we had a lift to do the work, but it took waaay too long to complete the work. Now I have a...

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

I like the idea of just the pump, much cheaper.

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

No, that is what I am trying to figure out what to do- just replace the pump and screen or do I need the entire hanger/sender unit. Have not checked the pressure. That is the next step once i get it to my friends garage

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

So, should I replace the fuel pump and sender as a package since I have to get into the tank anyway? Also, if anyone can confirm the part # for the 4.0 SOHC engine it would be great

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

Success today. Got it started finally. Kept turning the key on and off and I heard a groaning near the gas tank. First time started and idled rough then died. Second time caught and I took it out for a drive. Will try again tomorrow to see if it starts. Does this sound like the pump going bad?

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

I tried that and ran the battery down once and over halfway the second time before I gave up. I have added Startron in the hope that it would help eliminate the water in the gas, but since it has not started yet it must still be causing an issue

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

It was running fine so I am puzzled as to why it is hard to start all of a sudden. I really thought it was water that collected in gas from not running and it has been really cold over the last week or more.

Where do I listen for the fuel pump operation and how much will it cost to replace?

99 Explorer won't start after sitting - what should I try?

I got a new car about 3 months ago, and the Explorer has been sitting most of that time, but it has been started and driven at least every 2-3 weeks. Every time we try to start it it takes a while then it fires and runs fine. Today I am on my second day of trying to get it to run after using...

Questions about rear end noise, wrong fluid and possible noise fix

Had a shop put it on a rack and check it out. They told me the pinion was bad so it looks like I need to replace the entire rear end. Anyone have the link to the rear end swap how to page? I spent and hour looking for it with pics and could not find it. maybe my search terms were...

    97 Ford Explorer PVC Valve

yes this is a pain in the rear. I repalced mine on Sunday. I wound up grinding down some of the bulging portion of the new valve so I would not split the black plastic "T" connector when I forced the new valve into it.

Questions about rear end noise, wrong fluid and possible noise fix

Between 50-60 mph the whining is brutal. If the radio is off it is all you can hear. If I am on the phone people always ask what the noise is!

Questions about rear end noise, wrong fluid and possible noise fix

I already asked some questions about the noise in my 99 eddie bauer rear end and I have some more to go. I have been doing more research and I came up with more questions. Two posts so far: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383371...

How much free play should there be on the drive shaft in neutral?

Will do. Where is the sensor located? Also, would these potential issues cause a scenario where when I am driving down the highway the car suddenly would swerve/veer to one side? It almost feels like a sudden gust of wind blows the car to one side or the other.

How much free play should there be on the drive shaft in neutral?

I have been driving around with it whining for well over a year now. Dont jinx me. Today the ABS light came on.

How much free play should there be on the drive shaft in neutral?

Another interesting thing happened today-I had about 700 pounds of mulch in the back and it did not whine nearly as much. Probably an 80% drop in the volume of the whine. Also the car rode smoother. I had an extra leaf spring added to the left side of the car to combat the gas tank droop. I...

How much free play should there be on the drive shaft in neutral?

thanks. the rear has been making that high pitched whining since they replaced the gasket and added new oil. I chalked it up to thinner oil but it is loud enough to be annoying at certain speeds/frequencies. WHat are the cost estimates to replace or repair?

How much free play should there be on the drive shaft in neutral?

I did have a leak from the left side at the wheel. Would the rear bearing going bad make a whining noise, or a grinding noise like the front bearings when they go bad?
