Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos caused differentail failure?

Hmmm...not sure. However we had the road hazzard protection on the tires so took them to be balanced and rotated. The noise seems to have subsided. They are still louder than the Revos on my Armada but I attribute that to better insulation on my truck which cuts down on the road noise...

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos caused differentail failure?

So I spoke with the mechanic and what the sound actually ended up being was uneven wear on the tires. They tried to blame the tread pattern but when he told me that the tires were cupped it seems as if they were wearing unevenly. I replaced the shocks 30k ago so perhaps they went bad. I am...

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos caused differentail failure?

Thanks Dannyboy. I was thinking the same thing myself but my sister is the panicky type and goes off on her own. She is now requiring her 3rd set of rotors / pads in 40,000 miles - a feat which I doubt she could do unless she has her foot on the brake all the time. I will drill it into her...

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos caused differentail failure?

Hey guys, been a while since I posted but looking for some help. My sister is the current owner of my old 2000 V8 explorer and has had front end noises. The first shop changed the wheel bearing and front linkage but the problem persisted so she took it to aamco. The mechanic said the...

    Farewell :(

Well my Explorer has been officially sold so I am out of the Ford game for good. I wanted to write a note thanking everyone on here for their wonderful support with my 2000 V8 AWD through the years I owned it. I received assistance related to issues with MAF, IAC, shocks, brakes, oil, you name...

    CEL burnt out?

I had to replace by cluster bulbs and removing the cluster wasn't fun, but it wasn't terrible. The nice thing is there was pleanty of slack (well some slack)on the cable so you can do the job without disconnecting them. I have dealt with clusters that the cables had NO slack at all.

Rough Idle Once in A While

When this is happening (rough idle), disconnect the harness to the IAC. If nothing happens (the engine should idle worse) just replace it. It is a $50 part (on the V8 anyway). I had luck cleaning my MAF, but cleaning my IAC made it even worse. Replacing it on my 2000 AWD was a 3 minute...

And you're just telling me NOW!?!? ;) I swore I did a search first

    ScanGauge II

I was always interested in the ScanGauge but was turned off by it's hideous looks and amber back color. I checked their website last night and they have come out with the ScanGauge II which is MUCH cooler looking, larger screen, and you can change the back light! I've never used the device...

SEVERE brake fade with AutoZone Ceramics

I would hate to switch them since the scenario that caused it is not something I do everyday. Also, I will say that normally the cermaics bite much better than the stock pads ever did. I just worry because I plan to use them on other cars (including the GFs Mini Cooper). The low dust is key...

SEVERE brake fade with AutoZone Ceramics

I initially thought about the brake fluid but I bled them about 2 months ago and did notice that the peddle was firmer so I concluded the the job was done right. The brakes were so hot I could smell them - I'm pretty sure it was either the pads or the rotors getting so hot due to the ceramics.

SEVERE brake fade with AutoZone Ceramics

Today I was stuck in serious stop and go traffic (2 hours for 35 miles - 65 degrees) and I got an openening where I was able to really gun it. When the next block of cars came up I hit the brakes and it felt like my pads were replaced with a wet sponge. I have the AutoZone (Duralast?) rotors...

    rough start only in mornings

I agree to check your IAC. My 2000 Explorer 5.0 V8 did the same thing until it warmed up (which I belive is the same engine as yours). I tried cleaning the valve but it actually seemed to make it worse or minimally didn't make a difference at all. Here's what you do, start the engine...

Want to steam clean my engine...nervous

Well I have personally screwed up an engine so it's not hype (although this was over 10 years ago). I like the idea about disconnecting the battery - but you know I won't have that kind of patients ;) I think I will cover the electronics and air intake and give it a shot. Any thoughts on...

Want to steam clean my engine...nervous

I've been doing more research online and found out the following: 1) It's a good idea to cover electrical components (like alternator / coil) with plastic bags or tin foil. 2) Stay away from petrolum based cleaners - use citrus based instead (this prevents white spots and damage to hoses...

Want to steam clean my engine...nervous

I will be selling my Explorer soon as well as my fiancee's RX300. Both in great condition, but the engines are dirty. I read THIS THREAD a while ago and 410Fortune outlined the proceedure for cleaning his engine. I have had a costly experiance the last time I tried it with my 92 Sentra...

Squeak, Chirp, Non belt or pulley related?

Changing the belt on my 5.0 was realatively easy. It's like a 5 min job which is cool. Not sure about the V6 though.

    typical gas mileage with v-8

I know. It kills me that people with HEAVIER trucks that put my HP and TQ numbers to shame are getting better gas mileage than I am. I tried driving like a grandma but that made little if any difference. Besides, I like to drive fast :) The Explorer is just my hold over until I get the...

    typical gas mileage with v-8

I used to get the oil changed at the dealer because they have this "Engine for life" program that will cover the engine forever as long as you get oil changes done there. I scrapped that and am going to start running Mobile 1. I did change the fuel filter, air filter. The plugs and wires...

    general maintenance question...

Is this service offered in NY? I'm a AAA member but all I have heard of is that they certify certian shops as AAA and will give a longer warantee on the work. I would love for someone competent to check out my truck and advise me as to why my gas mileage is so horrible.

    typical gas mileage with v-8

Lucky *******s... I'll get about 13 highway if I'm lucky. My best was like 16. City is anywhere from 8 - 10 :( I took it to the dealer and a mechanic and neither could find anything wrong. When I go just back and forth to the train station (about 2 miles) I get about 150 miles for the...

Squeak, Chirp, Non belt or pulley related?

Did you notice if it happens only when humid / wet? That's when mine does it. The belt was replaced and it went away for a while. Then I did a couple pulleys and it went away for a while but it is back :fire: I remember one day after I got the belt replaced I heard a sqeaking and I was...

Squeak, Chirp, Non belt or pulley related?

I had a similar problem on my 5.0 and narrowed it down to one of the pulleys. It would happen more when it was wet / humid out. Replacing it made it subside for a few months but now it is back :(

    Brake bleeding questions

I am going to attempt bleeding the brakes on my Explorer and my GFs RX300 tomorrow. I've been able to find all the info for the Lexus, but not much for the Explorer. Can anyone answer these questions? 1) ABS Bleeding - Everyone says that you need to have a special dealer tool. However, on...

You can try cleaning it, but for me it just made it worse.

Window keeps coming off of track - what glue to use?

Epoxy huh? Good idea. I guess one of the problems with my previous glue job is it was so cold out I don't know if it actually fully cured.

Window keeps coming off of track - what glue to use?

My driver's side window has never worked too smoothly and now for the 2nd time it has come off of the track. I noticed that the problem is the front part of the window is coming out of the clip that is attached to the motor arm. The factory had glued it there and I tried putting goop in it the...

Is there more to it than just the IAC?

You can also clean your intake with Seafoam. Do a search for that as well but as others said it is a 10 minute job.

BMW's Hybrid Vision: Gasoline and Steam.

I saw this in my BMW magazine and wondered how much more it helps economy and power over a turbo charger? I like that they are trying a different approch but these car makers have to get on hydrogen fuel cells or some other alternative fuel source.

Teacher To Return To Classroom After Sex Change

For someone to do this at 71, obviously they felt a very deep desire. I mean he had his wang cut off! My take on this is the guy / gal has enough problems, I'm not gonna add to them.

    Maryland State Police newest cars

My M3 will toast that thing (4.8 sec 0-60 and 13.1 1/4 mile). Still not faster than the radio though :) In NY they are starting to get Dodge police vehicles as well. I bet Ford is taking a bath on losing these contracts all over the country. Although in the Bronx I saw some undercover...

Stay away from Hempstead Ford (Long Island)

    Trouble with cold start-up

I'm not sure about this. If your battery had enough juice it should keep the lights bright. If they faded it could be a bad battery or bad alternator. I would see what others have to say though.

Stay away from Hempstead Ford (Long Island)

I did take it to another shop to investigate my gas mileage issue (low). They had the car for a day and didn't find anything, they didn't charge me so I was happy about that but it almost seemed like they were not trying hard enough.

Stay away from Hempstead Ford (Long Island)

I actually have two warantees. One is a standard used car that has a $100 deductible (never do that again) and the other is specific to this dealership called "Engine for Life". It was that second one that made me feel better about buying the truck from them. I admit I walked into this deal...
