Weird Coolant Leak... need some help

-22...Wow....I'm sure your Explorer didn't take too kindly to being started that morning. I know my Mountie *****ed at me when I started her in -5 weather lol. :D

Why are these so cheap now?

You'd be surprised lol... 1st gen Broncos go for a crapton of money and I remember when people couldn't give those things away. Yeah $2.00 a gallon gas does make it a lot easier owning a 5.0L that only gets about 220 miles to a full tank lol :D

Why are these so cheap now?

Damn guys... It seems like yesterday that my parents were paying $27,000 for their brand new 1998 Ford Explorer... ..Well actually it seems like an eternity ago lol...But still.. It seems like a decent Mountie/Explorer can be had for $1500 and a "Good Condition" one is only worth $2,500...

    Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20

Ironically the truck stopped pulling once I put the spare on the passenger's side since that tire went flat overnight....UGH.... I honestly only have enough money right now to afford 2 tires until I get my nice paycheck next week for working all this overtime. Just out of curiosity and worry...

    Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20

I love the blunt honesty from people in this forum. I should've looked on kbb.com and seen that this truck is worth two grand in fair condition. If I was to fix all the mechanical problems, even with all the scratches and misc. dents (They're really not that bad. A new clear coat would rid all...

    Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20

Damnit.... I'm really having some serious buyer's remorse here with my Mountaineer. My God, has buying a used vehicle seriously become this much of a PITA? So there were things I left out that's wrong about my Mountaineer which to this day I don't know why I'd think they were a relatively...

    What'd I get myself into?

Sweet thanks so much! This was the info I was looking for!

    What'd I get myself into?

So as some of know, I bought a 98 AWD Mountaineer to replace my Explorer that was totaled. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on the following problems: -It has some form of electrical problem - the doors don't unlock, the front dome light doesn't work and the truck continually makes...

    Got My Replacement!

I think I'm going to do this and just ask for a gift certificate to one of those places for Christmas. I managed to make the smell a whole lot better just by buying some shout carpet cleaner and vacuuming the crap out of the truck. It was downright disgusting what I found buried behind the...

    Got My Replacement!

After looking at many, many rotbox Explorers, dealing with idiotic (sometimes heavily drug-influenced) sellers, I FINALLY found a decent Explorer to replace mine that was totaled. See original posting here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3353934&posted=1#post3353934...

    Got Rear Ended.

My lawyer's office called me today and told me that the guy's insurance company accepted full liability for the accident and their adjuster will be out either on Tuesday or Wednesday to appraise the truck. I just did a KBB valuation of my truck with all the features it has and apparently it's...

    Got Rear Ended.

I completely agree with you Bill and I didn't even look at it the way you were : The cost to replace the vehicle I had. That also factors in sales tax and cost of registering a new to me vehicle which should be another $150.00 . I will say that when they try to low-ball me and I'll also say...

    Got Rear Ended.

I'd love to have an AWD V8 Explorer. They sound sexy. :D I'm an ex mechanic and the way I view vehicles is the older, the better. The 1980s and early 1990s made the most reliable, easy to work on vehicles and boy oh boy did the auto companies learn their lesson and start changing that around...

    Got Rear Ended.

WOW. Alright I won't haha. I wonder if the adjuster will try to low ball me on a price anyways. The insurance lady I talked to was really nice to me and even offered to give me a rental truck before I even asked. Maybe, just maybe I won't have to fight for a fair amount of money? lol
  15. A

    Got Rear Ended.

Yeah, the undercarriage isn't in the prettiest of condition and I won't take less than a grand for the truck. They're giving me a rental at no cost to me so that will be a nice thing to have since I have no transportation right now. There's two prospective Explorers in my area that I...

    Got Rear Ended.

Hey guys, So I haven't been on the forum for a while because my Explorer was giving me trouble free, reliable service. Well I was leaving work at midnight on Thursday morning and I was stopped at a red light and POW!!!! I got rear-ended by a 2004 Dodge 2500 pickup. I got carted off by an...

    Kay, what'd I do now?

Yep it was a glitch in autozone's system. Installing the correct one was a piece of cake and it's a million times better. Thanks again to the kind, helpful members of the explorerforum!
  18. A

    Kay, what'd I do now?

I mean the front joint closest to the transmission on the 2wd main driveshaft, not the 4wd.. Autozone gave me a different sized one for the front! When I matched up the u-joints, one was smaller than the other and I installed the smaller one on the front of the u-joint.
  19. A

    Kay, what'd I do now?

I swear to God this truck just loves to bust my balls whenever possible. So I replaced both u-joints two weeks ago. The rear u-joint fit like a glove and the front...Well...I get the feeling it's the wrong size. There is about a 3/4" inch gap between all 4 ends of the u-joint and the...

    Snapped Liftgate Shock...UGH

So while opening my liftgate this afternoon, one of the liftgate shocks came flying down and hit me on my head. Apparently the nub piece on the liftgate that the shock is connected to was rusted and broke right off inside of the liftgate shock. Sooooo anyone have any ideas on how to...

    4WD Question

Wow that was the information I was looking for! Thank you! My question is where exactly is the shift motor on the transfer case?

    4WD Question

As I've previously posted, I bought back my Explorer from the same guy who I sold it to. He briefly mentioned he let his jackass kid drive the truck "for a little bit". I forgot how quickly kids can destroy things..Anyways I bought it back for $800 so I really can't complain. So two years ago...

Leak in my 01 Explorer Sport

I'm assuming it's dry in there now since it's been nice up here for the past few days.. Got a garden hose? If you do, turn it on and spray water over the suspected area while someone sits inside. You'll find your leak.

SO Glad I replaced my thermostat.

I drove it today for an hour and there's no leaking whatsoever...Let's hope this actually lasts... ...Tomorrow, the passenger side wheel bearing!
  26. A

SO Glad I replaced my thermostat.

It depends on how long it lasts. Even though I'm 29, I'm very old-school and I refuse to throw parts at problems. Yep I bought cheap hubs and you definitely get what you pay for. But if I get 6 months out of those cheap hubs I'm happy. (Don't forget everything's made in China nowadays.) I don't...

SO Glad I replaced my thermostat.

Oh, and it's not visible because it's probably tiny hairline cracks right? Idk I might've gotten lucky and it might actually be leaking by the seams because it looked like I didn't put it together right. When I took the housing off, I had the gasket pinched in between the housing. I put gasket...
  28. A

SO Glad I replaced my thermostat.

I don't get why making a gasket around it wouldn't work? Would the pressure of it just blow it out and make it leak? I really just love how a piece of plastic that probably costs 20 cents to make is the reason why my vehicle isn't on the road right now.
  29. A

SO Glad I replaced my thermostat.

Figures. I forgot things like these were the reason why I drove antique vehicles. While your idea is a great one, I think I'm going to get some gasket sealer tomorrow and clean the whole housing + bolt areas and seal it with that. I just really need this truck up and running in a hurry...

SO Glad I replaced my thermostat.

Yeah I'm being facetious. So I previously posted about how a local mechanic tried porking me on R&Ring wheel bearings. Well I'm happy to report I replaced them myself and it was painless and easy! The hardest part of the whole job was finding a secure place to jack the truck up! Well...

    Mechanic tried porking me.

Thank you!! Psht.... A no name with a year warranty. Honestly I'd be happy if I got a few months out of 'em until I can replace them with OEM ones. You don't need to do a lot of work to get the hubs off, all you have to do is take off the axle nut, the brake rotor, ABS wire and the 3 bolts...

    Mechanic tried porking me.

So I ended up re-buying my 1998 Explorer that had been in my family for 15 out of its 16 years in existence this weekend from the same guy I sold it to. I knew it needed wheel bearings so I dropped it off at a shop near my apartment complex today. Yeah well the "mechanic" tried telling me that...

    What to look for...?

Exactly. Transmissions rarely ever go on Volvo 240s but guess what? It's going on the 240 I'm driving now and I've owned 10 of them in my lifetime and never had a problem with trannies on them. He says it runs strong and drives strong and doesn't leak any fluids. To me that's a huge selling...

Nah the Explorer I'm going to buy hasn't sat. It was my '98 that sat and boy was everything rusted on it lol.

    What to look for...?

Welp fate has led me to an Explorer again. Let me start off by saying Ford Explorers have been a part of my life since November of 1992 when my parents bought a new Forest Green 1993 Explorer XLT and then a Red 1998 Explorer XLT new after the tires separated on the 93 and my dad rolled it...
