    Have an option question.

I'm looking to buy another 2003 EB Explorer with a 4.6L V8. All wheel drive, loaded. My question is this: Can I pull the cargo bay out of the new one and install my third row seating and seat belts from my old one into the new one? Anybody ever done this? Thanks for any help.

    Rear diff or axle shaft?

I think I figured it out for myself. I think my right rear CV axle shaft is shot. The transmission engages in all gears and the truck tries to move forward a little and backward a little, but there's a lot of clacking going on and it sounds like it's coming from the driver's side rear wheel.

    Rear diff or axle shaft?

My wife left for work today and got about 1/4 mile from home when she heard a loud clunk. Immediately, there was no power to the rear wheels. Currently. There's no Park, Drive, or Reverse gears, but the rear driveshaft still spins. This is a 2003 Explorer Eddie Bauer model. 4.0L v6, all wheel...

    Question regarding plenum. '03 Ex, 4.0L V6

Just a couple months ago I was chasing a cylinder 5 misfire and decided to change my number 5 injector. After completing that part, I reinstalled the plenum without any type of specific bolt pattern or torque. I can't find information pertaining to that subject, so I thought it must not have...

    4.0L V6 #5 cylinder misfire

My cylinder #5 misfire turned out to be a broken plug wire. Go figure. I was getting spark, just not enough of it., and at the wrong times. I replaced the plug wires and it's running and shifting like new again. Thanks for the help, guys! And I mean that sincerely.

    PCM Replacement Poll

I'd like to know if the PCM in these model years of Explorers and Mountaineers are prone to failure after so many years. That's my point.

    PCM Replacement Poll

I want to poll Explorer and Mountaineer owners to see how many of us have replaced their PCM to fix, or not fix, multiple issues.

Proper Procedure for PCM reset, please.

What is the proper procedure for resetting the PCM in our 03 Ford Explorer 4.0L V6, all wheel drive Eddie Bauer model? I thought you just had to pull the negative battery cable for a while? How long? Or am I not even close to being correct? Any help is greatly needed and appreciated.

    03 Ex 4.0L questions

I've been suspicious of the PCM this entire time. How often do they go bad in our Explorers? I see many listings on eBay for them. I've had to replace two PCMs in two Dodge and Jeep vehicles before. The seller I would normally purchase a PCM from doesn't have any Explorer PCMs in stock. Do I...

    03 Ex 4.0L questions

I've stated what I've replaced in my quest to solve the cylinder #5 misfire in other posts. After cleaning the IAC, replacing plugs and wires, replacing coil pack, replacing MAF sensor, replacing EGR valve, replacing fuel filter, and replacing #5 fuel injector. There's still no change in engine...

Trim paint color needed for my 2005 Eddie Bauer

I went through this a couple years ago when my wife hit a deer and I had to replace the front bumper cover and fog lights. I can't remember exactly how I found the paint code or color, I just remember it was hard to find but A5 and Ford Arizona Beige was a perfect match.

    Back to square one.

I did an inspection of the intake on Saturday when I had it off in order to get at the fuel rail. I couldn't see any damage at all to it. I just came back from my mechanic. His scanner showed the cylinder #5 misfire is still present. I'm at my wit's end with this thing. Maybe it's just that at...

    4.0L V6 #5 cylinder misfire

I got the fuel filter in, but what an awful job. I also replaced the #5 injector and am still experiencing some rough idle. There's also a strong smell of exhaust in the cabin while driving. Does anyone have any ideas?

Trim paint color needed for my 2005 Eddie Bauer

The paint color is called Arizona Beige, though it's actually gold. The paint number is on the sticker on the driver's door, but I believe it's A5. You'd have to look to be sure.

    Questions on injector replacement

I changed that #5 injector today and was surprised that it wasn't that bad of a job at all. The furthest rear plenum screw was pretty easy with a 6" extension on my 1/4" ratchet. The hardest part for my 44 year old body was continually climbing up and down from the engine compartment. I'm only...

    Questions on injector replacement

I am going to replace my cylinder #5 injector in my 03 Ex 4.0L V6/K-Flex engine. Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the fuel rail on the driver's side of the engine without removing the large black intake that sits above it. I'm going to try my luck on YouTube but any help would be...

    4.0L V6 #5 cylinder misfire

Replaced the coil pack and the overall performance got a little better but definitely didn't cure it 100%. I'm trying to change the fuel filter and cannot get quick connect ring to budge. I have a fuel line disconnector tool that I can get most of the way into the fitting, but not the lase 3/16"...

    4.0L V6 #5 cylinder misfire

Thank you for the reply and the information. What's the life expectancy of the factory coil pack? Is that a pretty common part to fail on these engines?

    4.0L V6 #5 cylinder misfire

We have been proud owners of an '03 Eddie Bauer Explorer. It's got a FlexFuel 4.0 V6, all wheel drive, automatic transmission, optional 3rd row seating, and ALL the gingerbread you could ask for. It's currently starting and running. It has a constant SES light on that flashes at times. When...

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

Replaced the EGR valve today. Cylinder 5 misfire code came back after 10 minutes of the engine running perfectly fine. I may try the injector next. At least I'll have a bunch of new stuff on it when I finally find what's causing the misfire.

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

It's been plugged in at AA, but of course, they can't recommend anything. The dealership wasn't much help. They want $135.00 just to plug it in and tell me what's wrong. I've been laid off and not drawing unemployment since December. I tried the interrogation method with the Ex, but she's not...

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

Had it at the dealership this morning to get the PCM/TCM flashed. The shop boss came out after a little while and told me that my software was all ready the latest version and that my transmission was failing internally, thus causing the jerky shifting. I told him it all goes away after I reset...

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

I cleaned the IACV and the MAF sensor. Before I undertook the task of replacing my #5 cylinder injector, I pulled the plug wire to that cylinder and found my spark plug to be loose enough that I could remove it with my fingers!! WOW! I returned the injector to AA, compared condition of my plug...

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

Along with the code for the cylinder 5 misfire, there was also a code for a downstream Oxygen sensor at fault, so I changed it. It's the one right below the manifold on the driver's side. The battery was disconnected for about 8 hours while I changed the rear struts and the supposedly bad Oxygen...

I definitely do not have coolant in my oil or oil in my coolant. If your problem was a bad injector, did you just change one or all six? When I reset my computer, the problem completely goes away.

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

We replaced the plugs and wires around 40k ago. I can't remember what we put in, but I normally by factory OEM parts. I never buy the cheapest nor the most expensive. I did pull the negative battery cable today for about a 1/2 an hour while doing the brakes on another vehicle. There's no...

    '03 4.0L V6, cylinder 5 misfire

I've got a misfire code setting on cylinder 5. The engine runs rough until it warms up, then the misfire goes away and the engine runs smoothly again. It's a k-Flex '03 EXplorer EB 4.0L V6, 4x4 with about 178K on the odometer. Any help would be greatly needed and appreciated.

    That "rumble strip" feeling

Well, I'm back again. That lengthy story about my rear driveshaft yoke is about to get longer. That machinist did a great job of correcting my bad yoke problems, but now they're back. There's play in the direction in which he had to grind, so now it looks like he took too much off of...

Rear strut replacement, 03 Eddie B. Model

I'm pretty damn good with my tools and take on any thing when it comes to suspension on my vehicles. Having said that, I asked my mechanic if he would like to have the job of replacing the rear struts in my 03 Eddie B. model Explorer. He refused the work, saying he thought he'd have to lift the...

    That "rumble strip" feeling

I started the rear driveshaft removal after my mechanic diagnosed the situation on Friday, August 7th. Heavily corroded axle threads, trying to remove wheel bearing, Need help! (Pic Incl.)

When I took my first look at the axle nut on my 03 Eddie, I thought the same thing as you. "WOW, I'm NEVER going to get that off." Mine looked just as bad, if not worse. DON'T CUT ANYTHING! I stuck a small pointed chisel into the venting on my rotor and rolled it around until it came to a...

    Rear Tie Rod End??? WTF?

I just got home from doing that passenger side rear toe link. The old one was shot, so I got the Moog from Advance Auto for $58.00 and it took me about an hour from start to finish. I was learning a little as I went, so I was taking it slow. All in all, I feel it was a total success. I had play...

    That "rumble strip" feeling

So, if I'm driving the truck (2003 Explorer, Eddie B. model, all wheel drive, 4.0L V6) with the OD off between 60 and 70 mph, and I'm STILL getting that "rumble strip" feeling, does that mean that my torque converter is not the problem? I can feel and see the RPMs go up when I shut the OD off...

    Rear Tie Rod End??? WTF?

Our Explorer went back to the mechanic for another round of rear wheel bearing work and he informed me that my passenger side rear tie-rod end has some play and needs replaced. My two questions are; 1.) Is this a DIY that I can do? I'm great at working on my own stuff and have a pretty...
