Another One Of Those No Start Threads

how would you explain how it starts when left for awhile and stays running until you shut it off and try to start it again? i've never had ANY problems with it starting before this and its been a hell of a lot colder. where is the voltage gauge supposed to read while cranking?

Another One Of Those No Start Threads

ok, got back in town today and tried to start the explorer. started right up on the first turn of the key and ran fine for 5 minutes and was fine when i revved it up. turned it off and it would not start again. anyone have these same symptoms that could fasttrack what i should check? thanks.

Another One Of Those No Start Threads

the check engine light does come on when i turn the key. also i am not sure if my fuel pump is priming, i know what it sounded like on my other car but all i hear on this one are a couple relay clicks and a static-like noise when my radio is shut off... where is the crankshaft sensor on...

Another One Of Those No Start Threads

i've read through a few of the other ones and still no luck. here is what happened: i left the explorer (97 5.0) for a weekend at a friends apt. when i came back to pick it up it started just fine, maybe a little hard but it was cold so i didn't pay attention. anyway i started driving away...

    Reinstalling front driveshaft...

so whats a tell tale sign the CV joint is bad?
  10. N

    Reinstalling front driveshaft...

how much movement? it almost seems like the cv joint is too loose, it freely turns except in one position where it sits down a little further and even then i can't get the cv joint over the nubs.

    Reinstalling front driveshaft...

is this supposed to be easy? this is turnin into a real *****, i need about an extra 1/2" but it won't go back any further. the cv joint feels a little loose, could it possibly be out of the joint and won't push back in far enough?

    Reinstalling front driveshaft...

how far is the rear suppose to slide into place? am i supposed to grease it?

    Reinstalling front driveshaft...

when i bought my explorer the owner had removed the front driveshaft before the sale but included it with the bolts. the vehicle is a 97 ford explorer sport. i am having trouble getting it back in place, it seems slightly too long, any ideas or pics of someone else's install?

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

yah i had looked at it before but i disregarded it as i didn't think a sport would have a premium JBL system. i'll take the panel off and see what the amp looks like.
  15. N

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

ok so i cross referenced the JBL premium system and found some of the colors of wires i have on it but not all. there is no sub so i am guessing it blew and the previous owner hacked it up and just removed the sub. looks like i might just have to run new speaker wire for all of the speakers...

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

even if they are running to an amp it doesn't explain why they are all different colors except 3 or 4 of them. is it possible it has a dash harness from a different year?

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

i agree is looks like something else was swapped in but not in the way you guys are mentioning. the colors on the plug that are there are all correct, its the wires BEHIND the spliced harness that are different. i'll go out today and write down all the colors of it.
  20. N

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

but can anyone explain why the wires are different colors than the ones of the stock harness. i found 3 today, the green/purple power, black/green ground, and green/black other one i can't remember, otherwise they are different colors that are on neither of the stock harness plugs...

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

ok, i pulled both harnesses off and labeled all the wires on the smaller harness matched up to the colors of the radio wiring harness but the wires they were connected to. i only found the ground and yellow/black wire, which is either illumination or fused ignition. can't remember right now. why...

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

i took off all the twist caps and am in the process of labeling and reattaching wires. hat i am wondering now is how many stock plugs are there. as you see i only have two. theres seems to be a lot more wires than there are from these two plugs, i removed the square plug as i believe it is just...

    Big Problem-All Cut Up

the deck i removed was aftermarket and it was connected correctly with a wiring harness, but behind the stock plugs it is hacked up and reconnected, there is even a wire completely stripped just hanging there as you can see in the pics. how many plugs is the aftermarket harness supposed to plug...

    Devastated

well it could potentially uncover any problems that were caused from the use of whatever kind of oil to use and they would be able to tell if you have indeed been sabatoged somehow thats their thing, i'm sure they've seen it before and could point you to an oil and what interval has worked...

    Devastated

what kinda oil, changing it religiously means nothing if you are using ****ty oil edit: i realize it may be "devastating" to you but i guess i have a different meaning. having a 3k honda with 15-20k of mods and having it get stolen while insurance cuts you a check for 3k is devastating in my book.

Where is the canister purge valve

like i said joe dirt, i've seen that and thats not the piece i got. i need to find out where the piece goes that looks like the one i got. it is definitely a piece of the EVAP system but its not that piece or anything under the battery tray

Where is the canister purge valve

ok i've seen this and it did look promising but the plug on it will not fit the plug...besides it doesn't look anywhere near the same as the new one. from the previous post it looks like it will have to be accessed from the fender well

Where is the canister purge valve
