Honda Debuts a 1/2 Ton pickup
It doesn't even compare with a half-ton truck anyway, half ton's can haul a lot more than 1,100 lbs in the bed. It is an outdated term that they are using.- Firefighter

Cummins girl stuck with a 5.0
I didn't know about Cat slipping by the emissions requirements, but I'm not real surprised. Everybody's doing it nowadays. I read about Project Sidewinder, that truck is pretty incredible. Dodge will probably shell out the cash for the vgt when they start to need them to keep up with Ford...- Firefighter

Cummins girl stuck with a 5.0
Yea, all (or most) of the truck engines are taking a hit because of emissions requirements, but Cat's doing a little better than Detroit, and some other companies. From what I've seen, most Cat's torque curves are quite a bit beefier than a cummins of the same size/horsepower rating. Some...- Firefighter

Cummins girl stuck with a 5.0
Well, I've got a pre-powerstroke Ford diesel. Cummins are good engines, but I don't know about those dodges. Now, if they would just put a Cat diesel in a ford pickup..... :D Welcome to the site.- Firefighter

Bilsteins, Who has them and whats your review?
No, the axle still seems to articulate fine off road. They seemed very stiff compared to the original shocks which I could compress with my own weight easily (and they only had 30,000 miles on them). I could balance on the bilsteins and they wouldn't budge, even when I tried to put quite a bit...- Firefighter

Dash boards? gen3
I think that you could buy one for a 2001 4 door explorer and it would fit fine. One from a 2002+ 4 door probably won't fit because of the redesign.- Firefighter

Bilsteins, Who has them and whats your review?
I have bilsteins on my x and really like them. I would agree with what everyone else has said so far. They actually seemed to give my x a little bit of lift, because they're so stiff. I had to use a jack to compress the rears when installing them. They do work very well off road and are very...- Firefighter

Ten Myths About Synthetic Oil
I have been using mobil 1 for over a year now, and am very happy with it. I have still been changing it every 5,000 miles just because even though the oil is good longer, I don't believe that the filter's life is affected by it. I have better peace of mind when starting at very cold, subzero...- Firefighter

After New Gears: Top Speed?
True, unless you can reach 6250 rpms in high gear without hitting a speed limiter, which is unlikely. The tach may not have a "red" line, but the engine does.- Firefighter

96 4.0 Sport vs. 5100 lbs of Boat and Trailer
I think some of the newer Sports are rated to tow 5,000 with a reciever, but I'm not sure about yours. If the trailer doesn't have hydraulic brakes (I would think that it has them if it's a newer trailer) you will want to install a controller for electric brakes because that is a lot of weight...- Firefighter

Mounting Driving Lights
Hi, I have a couple of questions. I want to get a set of KC Hilites SlimLites and mount them on my 01 Sport, but I don't have a brush gaurd. Where would you recommend that I try to mount them? I don't want them to be too low, I don't want to have them damaged if someone backs into it in a...- Firefighter

what kind of spark plugs do you use ?
I still have the stocker's on mine. Don't get Bosch +4's, they're right, they don't work. A couple of people from industry have told me that they don't work any better. For what plugs cost, if they really worked that much better, don't you think that Ford would put them on stock vehicles...- Firefighter

Can you spin your tires?
From a stop, I can't break 'em loose on dry pavement without doing a brake stand, but sometimes they will on wet pavement. They break loose real easy going around a corner in any conditions. 3.73 LS, 255-70-16 tires, 5 speed auto.- Firefighter

Which Is Best?
I put Bilsteins on my 01 Sport. They're nice, and helped the ride and handling a lot, both on and off road. On the down side, they can be a little bit jarring over rough pavement, but I've driven on quite a few logging trails with washboard sections and these shocks keep it on the trail.- Firefighter

Tow Hooks
Ok, thanks. I saw the pictures on the other thread, I just wanted to confirm. Thanks a lot for your help. By the way, how does your 4.0 sound with the Flowmaster? Which model did you buy? Does it sound throatier, more like a V-8?- Firefighter

Tow Hooks
Thanks for the help Would a Ford dealer sell those? How much do you think they'd charge? I know some of their parts are really overpriced. Do I need longer bolts to install them? Thanks again.- Firefighter

It might have been, but everything else seems to be in good condition. I'm pretty sure it hadn't been 'wheeled because it didn't even want to go into low range at first.- Firefighter

Tow Hooks
Hi, I need to install tow hook(s) on the rear of my 01 Explorer Sport. My off road club requires them, and I can't really see a good spot to mount them on the frame. It has no receiver hitch, and the only mounting locations that look like they would work are on the bottom of the bumper...- Firefighter

The tranny fluid change is probably a good idea. I bought mine with 30k, and the tranny failed at 38k. And, NO I didn't drive it hard.- Firefighter
