Help How to remove EGR assembly
Thanks. Seeing the layout before doing the job boosted confidence in how long it would take. It ended up only taking about an hour of actual labor. One of the key things is to do everything while the engine is cool. I forgot to tighten the flare nut on the exhaust line going to the valve...- ImConfused666

Help How to remove EGR assembly
Well, thanks again. You're right that removal and replacement are straightforward. Hard to reach the danged bolts but... still straightforward. Now, I just have to do the testing to see if I need to spend the money to replace it. Thanks again.- ImConfused666

2006 Ford Explorer 4.0 EGR Valve Help
It looks like I might have the same issue. I'm getting a P0401. I pulled the vacuum line on the EGR Valve and used a vacuum pump to diagnose. There was no change in my idle speed so I guess the nest step is to pull the EGR Valve for a bench test. It looks like I probably have to pull the...- ImConfused666

Help How to remove EGR assembly
Did you ever get a response? I'm just about to remove the EGR on my wife's 2006 so I can bench test it. When I pulled the vacuum line and used a pump to pull a vacuum, I got no change in the engine idle speed so I'm assuming this is likely to be the problem. Just looking at it, I think it's...- ImConfused666

5r55e - Using IDS & VCM to troubleshoot no 3-4 shift
We also replaced the Torque Converter but I'm wondering if it's possible that it could be bad and is causing a problem? I've never really been sure how to check one out.- ImConfused666

5r55e - Using IDS & VCM to troubleshoot no 3-4 shift
The internal harness checked out fine. Just to be sure, I plopped down the money to replace it today, as well. Just reinstalled. Same exact problem. No 4th or O/D. It does throw a P0734 and P0735 error code (just as before) but that doesn't really help me in this case. I've got engine...- ImConfused666

5r55e - Using IDS & VCM to troubleshoot no 3-4 shift
Hi PR77. Good questions. We replaced all of the fibers in all clutch packs. We were very careful to have them facing the correct direction. We've double-checked the seals visually and with air. We see nothing wrong with them and all pistons engage at 20psi with the except of the Direct...- ImConfused666

5r55e - Using IDS & VCM to troubleshoot no 3-4 shift
Stranger & Stranger... Thanks for the reply. As of today, we ran full line pressure tests on the danged thing in my son's Explorer and it passed all tests with flying colors. We've ohm'd out every test point that can be checked. Everything checks perfectly. Still no 4th or OD. We're...- ImConfused666

5r55e - Using IDS & VCM to troubleshoot no 3-4 shift
I see there has been no reported progress in a while. I stupidly decided to go for a rebuilt VB. Did no good. At this point, I'm about to drop the tranny AGAIN and see if there is a problem with the clutches that we just installed. I'm starting to think they might not have been correct. The...- ImConfused666

5r55e - Using IDS & VCM to troubleshoot no 3-4 shift
I'm having same problem with a tranny we just rebuilt. It shifted great through all gears for 2,000 miles and then stopped going past 3rd gear. Sometimes, it will shift from 3-4 but never into OD. usually shifts smoothly through 3. Very frustrating. First 5R55E to work on but not my first...- ImConfused666

2006 XLT Stalls
I have a little more info. When I got home this afternoon, I left the motor running and popped the gas cap. As soon as I opened it, there was a release of some pressure (normal) and the motor died. I wonder if this means that the low pressure fuel pump is starting to go out and it needs help...- ImConfused666

2006 XLT Stalls
Thanks for the idea. I hadn't considered that. I did have a problem about 7 years ago with a '99 Explorer that was corrected by replacing the Idle Valve Control Motor. I should be able to at least try cleaning the valve and see what happens. I found it interesting that it always happens...- ImConfused666

2006 XLT Stalls
I'm just starting to have a similar problem with an '06 XLT. In this case, it is VERY hard to start immediately after filling up with gas. It also has a tendency to want to die shortly after starting it just after filling up or on a cold morning. This just started happening in the last...- ImConfused666
