    Possibly getting juiced by mechanic!

Sounds like a good price to me Brian - I paid 325 for 1 hub assy install at the dealer. You can relax regarding the shaking. This also happened right after mine was replaced (scared the crap out of me). It is caused by air in the power steering system. They just turned the steering wheel back...

Anybody with Class III Hidden Hitch???

Get the one from Ford - You will be happy. This is the same harness/bracket you would get if you had the factory tow package. The one you are looking at has no bracket to mount the 4 pin connector - the Ford one goes into pre-existing holes on the bumper so it will look stock.

Anybody with Class III Hidden Hitch???

Ford sells a kit that plugs into the grey connector you found behind the tailight. It includes a wiring harness and a mounting bracket for the 4 pin connector (mounts to existing holes in bumper). I think it cost around $25

Climate Control, 90 hot, 85 cold?

You can try resetting the controller by holding down the off and floor buttons at the same time then release them and press the automatic button. Every symbol on the display should light at the same time when it resets. Turn key to off position and then start. This fixed my heat all the time...

Will you do a stereo "self test" for me?

Don I tried the test on my Mountaineer w/MACH and the subwoofer was also barely audible - although it sounds great during normal play. - Thanks for the tip on the volume control

    hitch ball size

If you have a class 3 Hidden Hitch the correct ball will have a 1" diameter shank. The ball you have is made for a class 2 hitch( I believe it has a 3/4 or 5/8 shank - this is why it is rated for 3500lbs) The 2" ball with a 1" shank is rated for 5000lbs.

    Towing Tips

I tow a 4000lb boat w/350lb tongue weight and had a similar sag problem. I installed a set of air lift springs for $180. http://www.airliftcompany.com/ridecontrol.htm They have worked out great. I leave 20lbs of pressure in them when not towing (this actually improved my ride and handling) The...

    Shake at Idle

Ricardo - Did you ever install the bracket? That was the best $80 I ever spent. I had forgotten all about this past problem until I read this post.

    Vibrating engine/car

It was around $80 for both parts, but it's a free fix if you are still in your 3/36 warranty.

    Vibrating engine/car

I had a similar problem on my 99 4.0 SOHC Mountaineer. It only happened at idle, and was much worse when in drive with brakes applied. It was a harmonic type vibration that went away when I just barely touched the throttle. Everything inside the truck vibrated, including mirrors. A Ford tech on...

    Problems w/31's

I have a 99 Mountaineer 4x4 SOHC 3.55 gears. Did you notice a big power loss when switching to 31's? I tow a 3500lb boat and would like to switch to a bigger tire, but don't want to be straining on the hills.

    1998 SOHC rough idle

My 99 Mountaineer has the same problem. Dealer called it a resonance vibration, and said all the 4.0 SOHC motors have this problem. He said there is no fix (typical response)- and this is normal for this motor. I'm going to try the intake manifold gasket to see if it helps. Thanks
