    Looking to buy 1999 Ford explore need your advice!!

    I'd say stay away from this vehicle. 1999 thru 2001 Ford 4.0 engines had issues with timing chain tensioners. The tensioners (2) would fail causing 1 or more timing chains (4) to colaspe.     I just want to let others know that I have had success with my 2012 Ford Explorer's issue with the check engine light going on and off. I had the purge valve replaced with a new Motorcraft CX-2409 purge valve. It is still running great with the gas at 24mpg.
