Update on A4ld rebuild and thanks

Hey there Mr Karnage. I recognize you from the turbo ford.org. I would agree with you if we had just rebuilt the original A4LD, but with the help of Glacier we were able to build a much stronger transmission than the one that came with the TC in 87. I feel pretty confident that we won't be...

Update on A4ld rebuild and thanks

We replaced both servos with larger ones. I also used both shift kits, and went with the servo srings provided and removed the little clip from the intermediate. Oh yea we used five check balls, and drilled the pucks to .063. I found the post about the speedo gears also. Thanks again and again...

Update on A4ld rebuild and thanks

Just wanted to thank Glacier for his diary on the A4ld rebuild. We finished our rebuild with many of the updates he used, and the information was a great help in getting it done. We picked up a 94 4.0 core, and went from there, and got it back into the car a couple days ago. It is working great...

Extra spring in A4LD valve body

Yes our posts just keep getting crossed LOL. Thank you for that answere. That tech was no more in the know than I was. Tomorrow we put on the valve body, and linkage, and we are done. Your information has helped so much, starting even before the transmission was pulled out of the car. Thanks...

Extra spring in A4LD valve body

Poor mans debris filter? Now that makes me think that maybe that is my purpose also. You are a guru.

Extra spring in A4LD valve body

OK, so I guess I'll have to answere my own question. Was talking to a tech today from Superior, and brought up the extra spring. He had heard of some Ford dealer techs leaving a spring in there for when the trans breaks again(and it will for sure the way they build em) to show the customer that...

Extra spring in A4LD valve body

Upon tear down of the 94 A4Ld we are rebuiding, on the case side of the tranny where the valve body bolts to the case we found a spring laying flat and lengthwise in one of the fluid tracks. It seems it's only purpose in life was to disrupt the general flow of things, much like myself. I...

    No Forward

Thanks for the replys. I think I am going to use the 4r 4.0 case and internals to rebuild, and put on a 2.3 bell housing. After we get the T bird back on the road I will look at the other two that are left. A A4ld and 5r55e, using the A4 in my Merkur, and the 5r in the project switching a 4.0...

    I'm a hot rodder

I certainly don't know all there is to know about it. I did make a mistake. The SVO mustang only came with the t5 manual. It wasn't until 87, after the SVO was gone that the 2.3 mustang used the a4ld until about 1993 when I think the 2.3 was used in the Ranger pickups. The c3 was used in the N/A...

    The C3 became the A4ld.

The fox body SVO mustang 2.3 turbo used the a4ld as did the tbird turbo coupe and xr7 Cougar. The V6 mustangs used the AOD. I have no idea why the Germans used the c3 on the Merkur when the A4ld was available. Danny

    I'm a hot rodder

The AOD will not bolt up to a 2.3, or any of the other engine classes that use the A4ld as far as I know.

My Murkur makes about 230or so with a 25 shot of N20. It has a ported head 42lb injectors, and a very small under the hood intercooler. I had a nice front mount, but my daughter kept smashing it into things. I am still running the stock T3 turbo at 18 psi until I put a good intercooler back on...

    No Forward

Yes it is my friends car. I had thought the front sprag might be the problem. The modulator is a single vac line, and I had replaced it(the modulator) a couple years ago. The car doesn't get driven alot. It dynoed a little over 200 ftlbs of torque and 190 hp to the wheels, so it is not over...

In my searching I have seen your reply about the fluid level many times. I would not dream of posting about a problem without checking the fluid level first, all because of you. The transmission is in a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I was working on upgrades to the turbo, and had power braked it a...

This is a very cool site. I was searching for info on the a4ld transmission, and stumbled onto you folks. I am a semi retired mechanic. I have had a performance shop within the lasty couple years that I had to walk away from for health reasons. I am very much into Ford power. my personal...

    No Forward

Well I have searched and searched, and cannot find the answere. I was driving along, and it acted like it popped out of gear. just like that i had no forward gears. Drove it home in reverse. It is a 87 a4ld. I have found two or three posts with the same symtoms, but have never seen an answere...
